  • Internet access

I know that internet access has been a hot topic in the past. I have just learned something new to pass on. I just spent a delightful week at Shorecrest in a couple of oceanfront units with my family along. We had a great time, though it was HOT and a little smokey from forest fires. I had made a decision to give up my computer aircard and just pay the fee at Bluegreen Resorts. I checked in and paid the 29.95 fee (I think) for a week of access. The service was great and the hookup was easy and promptly done. When I inquired about my grandson hooking in his iPod, I was told by AT&T that the charges was PER DEVICE and not per unit. For my crew, that would have been $120 for the week with most of the devices being left at home by the adults. To clarify, the service rep said that AT&T had different contracts for different places so we would always have to check. For the ten of us it would usually have been 3 iPods, 2 laptops, 1 Nook. It adds up. The only solution that I can think of is to set up a wi-fi hotspot, which has charges of its own by the cellphone company. Any ideas, other than to leave it all at home. Some can't do that. We did not do an update, so it was a wonderful experience at Shorecrest!!!!!!!

I usually bring a wireless router with me so that we can share an internet connection even if we have to pay for it.

I have AT&T at home so wayport is free at BG for me.
I think you can now get AT&T for $14.99 a month.
I know it's saved me alot of money vacationing because alot of places use Wayport.

Virgin Mobile's Broadband2Go service might be an option if you run into this a lot.

Is BlueGreen one of the few companies that does not offer free WiFi or Internet at all? My frustration is the lack of consistency as some do have it. For example Mountain Run @ Boyne has Internet but Sunshine in Florida does not (unless you pay extra of course). In this day, something like this should be standard.

For my internet, I tether my phone to the laptop. Places like Christmas Mountain Village are tough as the cell signal is very weak. Most other locations have been fine for this connection method.

                Wifi inconsistencies at BG

To me this is BG biggest problem. Every little junky $50.00 a night motel offers free wifi now, but I have to pay $19.95 to use it at BG. I just paid that at mountainloft. It would be tolerable if it was free in the clubhouse, but it is not. At Hershey a few years ago they had free wifi in the clubhouse, but it probably isn't like that anymore. I paid at world golf village last year too.

I must agree with brook. Everytime we need to stay in a cheap hotel for one night for whatever reason wifi is free yet when we stay at bg it's a hassle. This is my only major issue with bg. Otherwise, I'm a very happy owner! How many out there agree and is there anything we can do as owners to push BG to provide that service for free? I mean, we do pay plenty in mant. fees.

I have returned from CMV. Unable to get enough signal on my cell to tether to the laptop, I had to pay $30 for the ATT wireless. That signal was 2 out of 4 bars and would sometimes bounce down to 1 bar or up to 3 bars, but 2 bars was pretty regular.

I mention it in all of my evaluations after I check out. I notice that when non BG members use the facilities, they howl about the lack of wifi, see reviews through tripadvisor or other travel sites. Even though BG is guaranteed to get owners money, they should be striving to put a good product out their for the transfers and guests or new purchasers. It only makes sense from a business standpoint.
