  • Expiring Bluegreen Points

We have some Saved Points that are due to expire at the end of September. We don't think we will be able to use them between now and then, as we already have another vacation planned.

My understanding is that you can't bank any points with RCI - you have to complete an exchange in order to use the points?

What if I completed an exchange with RCI for a vacation in the next month or so - my understanding is they will take the Saved Points within 45 days of travel. If I had to cancel because we couldn't fit in the extra vacation time, would the Saved Point that I used for the reservation then be saved with RCI as RCI points and be valid for another year? I am trying to think outside of the box here so I don't lose the points.

That being said, I assume I would have to pay a second exchange fee when I got ready to book something else with RCI?

You could book a reservation and then cancel, but if you cancel between 30 and 60 days ahead of time (which would be the case for your reservation) you loose 50% of your points and your exchange fee.

In the past, the remaining saved points would be held by RCI for up to 2 years for you to make another reservation up to 45 days out. With the new BG/RCI integration, they might actually return the remaining saved points to your BG account with the original expiration date which would be bad news for you. Make sure you ask before you try this.

You would have to pay a second exchange fee to rebook your points later.

Thanks. Luckily I figured out a way to use the rest of them before expiration, so I didn't have to book with RCI. But, would be interesting to know what would happen - just in case? I am sure somebody out there has tried this.

Glad to hear you were able to use them. Out of curiosity did you find a Hot Week that worked for you or did you use some other way?

No, unfortunately we didn't have enough vacation time for a Hot Week, as we have several vacations planned this fall. What we did was we already had a weekend reservation at the Fountains - we added some time to that reservation so we will just take a long weekend. Fountains requires a lot of points since they are all two bedroom units and always at least a red season - so this took care of the overage of saved points we were going to have.

Living in FL - Fountains is easy to get to. We often use Bonus Time because of the high points.

A few years ago I bought into a another "timeshare" called Travel Advantage Network (planwithtan.com). You can bank weeks with them (I used white and blue points that I would never use a got extra weeks). They used to give two weeks for every week you banked (they use it as excess inventory) but now it's just one week. I have yet to use them - has anyone done so ? The initial membership fee of about a grand, the yearly fee is $100 and there are booking fees of I think $200 when I go to use them.
