So I cannot accept as fact that several candidates commenting in this or any other forum would be unfair to the "quiet" candidates who probably are just running for some free trips to Florida at our expense.

Agree. OPen forum, come talk to your constituents!

Have to set the record straight, tho, there are no free trips. Board members pay their own way, lodging, meals, expenses. Susan was not going to get anything free except knowledge and input.

I did post about my not being appointed to the Board of Directors in another thread--the one the incumbent Marge Lennon had started, after her first post of her lifetime was in this thread that I had started. So I thought I should probably post here as well. I have had a busy time in Florida trying to promote my business since the annual meeting.

To rehash a bit first......in order for the election to be officially held, there had to be the presence of a quorum either by proxy or people present or a combination. According to information at the meeting 130,869 ballots were e-mailed and 32,769 were sent by US Mail, confirming proper notification. (They have decided to do it this way to save on funds which I agree with however, I am not sure it truly follows the by-laws and may indeed have a large effect on the fact that we do not achieve a quorum.) To have a quorum, 15% of the owners need to be represented which would be approximately 24,000. 5,584 proxies were returned and seven owners were present when the meeting began. With the lack of a quorum, business was not able to be conducted.

The only two pieces of business were to approve the minutes of the last officially held board meeting which was in 2004 and to hold the election for the Class A member whose term ends in 2011. This means that since 2004 there has not been a quorum since they have yet been able to approve those minutes. That year, according to those minutes (which you should have all received with your proxy instructions supposedly--I have not gone back and checked my e-mail), 134,000 some proxies were counted. (I want to find out how they were able to get so many returned that year vs the low count now.)

With the lack of a quorum, the minutes could not be approved and the election could not be held. All voting was null and void and BG according to the by-laws could appoint whomever they would like to and chose to re-appoint the incumbent Marge Lennon. No information was given as to the tally of votes. I am sure that is not out of the ordinary. However, I am going to request the numbers, though I am sure I will not be given them.

I would like to thank you for your support in voting and voting for me. A vote for me was really a vote for all of us as owners. Together we rose to the occasion, we stood up together on issues and we spoke and by doing so, we were definitely noticed. Many BG staff knew who I was when they saw my name on my name tag. Wendy Poe who ran most of the meeting gave me her business card and told me she would like me to contact her when I had concerns and questions. I think she genuinely meant that and that it wasn't just lip service. If it was just lip service, she wouldn't have offered her business card too.

The staff person who escorted me back to the conference room (it is a LONG way back--they can't just direct you to it--you would never find it on your own), Jimmy, said you have ran quite a campaign for the election. So, I was definitely noticed.

Though I know many of you have already my notes on BG Yahoo and Jim has already posted on this forum and in BG Yahoo his representatives' notes who attended the meeting, I plan to post my notes in this thread and the other thread, hopefully later today.

Again, thanks for your support. I believe we won, even if we didn't get a voice on the board. (We truly would not have had a vote on the board anyway as BG per the by-laws appoints four of the seven board members anyway.)

Jim did a really nice recap of the owner meeting in the Bluegreen Resorts forum so I don't see any reason to rehash all of that for you. You can find it in this thread:

A few additional comments from me:

From the owner meeting, it sounded like the bonus time problem was a glitch in the online booking and that has been straightened out now.

The free wi-fi (which I prefer to call wi-fi at no additional charge) will be slowly implemented resort by resort and hopefully will be fully implemented by the end of 2012. The neat part about this to realize is that this will cost thousands of dollars and yet they were able to hold our maintenance fees at the same level as 2011. I just hope this won't mean that the maintenance of our resorts will suffer. While I am very excited about no increases, it does make me question this side of it. With all costs going up for utilities, snow plowing, landscaping, insurance and routine maintenance--it just seems as though the maintenance fee budget should always go up. This would technically mean if they were not implementing "free" wi-fi, the budget would have been less than 2011???????

Again, I hate to keep sounding like a politician, but thanks for your votes. It's so important to commend you all. We made a big impact, I believe. Your votes in the election were important as they were a vote to say that all was not well in the state of BG ownership and the owners were restless about some key issues--and that in conjunction with the communication many of you made with BG staff--this is what made these major changes happen. As Jim said, the first time he has seen BG pay such close attention to owners. A big pat on the back to the social networks making such a big difference.
