  • Renting Points

I am planning a trip to The Fountains in April and may need to rent some points to stay as long as I would like. Can someone tell me how the process works? Can I rent points from someone and have the points placed in my account to use in a reservation, or do I have to have the owner make a reservation and rent it to me? I am concerned if it is the latter, I would have my 7-day reservation and then have to change rooms for the rented portion of the stay.

Thank you to anyone who can help explain the process for me.

While I don't have your answers, I do have extra points. I know that I could reserve the time and then change the name into your name, but if there is an easier way, I don't know.

Having asked this question before, the answer to you first question can you rent points from someone else and have them placed in your account the answer is no. At least that is what I was told! I know there are companies that do allow this feature called "sharing" points such as SVC.

The only way that I know of doing something like this is by having someone with more points than you make the reservation you want, and you in turn making a reservation with them.

This can obviously get pretty tricky. Not only are you finding someone with more points than you, what they may want may not be of similar "value". Then you are having to make two reservations.... then the points do not match up, etc. You may have to give up a little more than the points required to get this done but it could work.

As Vinter mentioned, the first thing you have to do is find somebody with the number of points you need? How many points does the full reservation you are looking for? Have you already booked the first 7 days and did you get cancellation insurance on those points and that reservation?

As you mention there is a possibility you would have to change rooms. However you can check with the resort to see when the next person is checking in to the room you are in. That would tell you how many extra days you may be able to stay if they are willing to accomodate.

If you have Travelers Plus, you can rent points from BG. It's $150 per 1000 points and are good for a year.

Boca Bum rents points, as do a number of other posters to the yahoo group (some of whom post here as well, just not as often). I dunno what everyone charges, but I do know it's less than renting points from Bluegreen (and you can get the exact number of points you need).

We've intended a time or two to combine reservations -- our points and rented points -- but have always found it easier just to rent enough points for the whole reservation. I know some people who rent out their points will put in requests for you and the like, although we've never done it. Someone at the yahoo group might have more experience with that, though.

            Hi!

I own a LOT of Bluegreen points and I have the luxury of being able to rent for below cost (5 to 6 cents per point). I have rented perhaps a hundred vacations and can provide references. I'd be happy to help you out!

            Cheers,
            Lee

Thanks for the responses everyone. I will have 30k (15k annual, 15k borrowed) for use in high red when I need 32k. I do not really want to rent the entire stay, because this will likely be the only vacation we take this points-year. I was hoping there was a way to simply have the points credited to my account to make a single reservation. I am getting two 2BR units at the Fountains for my family and my in-laws and I really do not want to have to switch rooms. I guess I will probably just shorten my stay by a day and just do eight nights.

Another option you have, is you can find another owner who is going to be making a reservation requiring 30k (or multiple totalling 30k) you may be able to get them to make your reservations, and you make theirs. You obviouslly would have to compensate the other user for the additional 2000 points.
