We are set to go to Hershey next summer for 3 nights then to Atlantic city for 3 nights. Can anyone offer some inside information to make this an even better trip? We have never been to either place and are excited about the trip. Will be the two of us and our 2 children who will be 9 and 11 at the time. Thank you in advance for any information!

I can help you with AC. First go to the AC Aquarium but first find out when the feeding times are after your done there walk over to where the shops are and eat there. Best tasting for a low price. Next spend a day in Smitesville. Great shopping plus things to do with the kids. Now I normally go to Cape May there is a wildlife preserve there as well as whale watching. The kids will love wildwood but parking can be a pain. You can do both Cape May and wild wood in the same day if you start early.

Hi Marsh,
I agree with Frank's suggestions, but would also add Ocean City.
Visit Ocean City, New Jersey | Official Site of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce
When my kids where your kids ages, they loved Ocean City. There's a huge boardwalk, amusement park, and lots of arcade games. The beach there is very nice, and there are a bunch of restaurants & shops.
My favorite town in the area is Cape May....I usually go there once a summer.
Three days may not be enough time to cover it all, so if I had to choose, it would be Ocean City & Cape May.
Enjoy your stay, whatever you decide.Angela
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

You can get discount coupons for HersheyPark at Giant food stores and at Dunkin' Donuts.
My kids enjoyed the "treasure hunt" at the Hershey Story museum, which costs extra, but made the trip more fun--without it, the museum is not that much fun. They also liked the Chocolate Lab there, where we made little chocolate bowls and learned about chocolate.

There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favourite places is on the back of my horse.

And they liked the Wilbur Chocolate Store and Museum, and Julius Sturgis pretzels, in Lititz, which is in "Amish Country" but not of it, if you will. You don't get to tour the Wilbur chocolate factory but the store is tucked in one corner of the building and we could certainly hear it! The Museum is mostly a collection of chocolate pots and stuff, and you can watch people make fudge (and get a sample, memory serves).
My kids liked the park beside the factory -- there's a lion's head fountain and then a stream winds through the park and there were ducks and other water fowl hanging out that the kids enjoyed watching. We didn't feed any but another family did. I'm not usually one for feeding wild animals but this place was relatively laid back -- no Canadian geese, who usually dominate "free food" kinda areas. Maybe there isn't a big enough pond there for them?
At Julius Sturgis pretzel bakery you can pay for a presentation on the history of pretzels, a tour of the original factory, and you get to roll your own pretzel. They used to bake the pretzel and let you eat it but the government came down on them so now you just get to roll it out and then they give you a pack of regular pretzels. We bought soft pretzels as well -- both were good!
There's a little historical museum down the block towards the Chocolate Factory, with gardens in the back, and directly across the street from Julius Sturgis is Linden Hall, the oldest girls' boarding school in the US, and the Moravian Church square, with a beautiful church and another little museum and a little park-like area.
We live near a major Amish settlement so were looking for something a little different, but we did see a lot Amish farms driving out to Lititz, and when we stopped at Kitchen Kettle Village so I could pick up some Watermelon Pickles we watched various Amish ladies doing some canning and making fudge and watering the horses for the carriage ride. Lots of stores with all the usual Amish-ish stuff.

There are these huge outdoor flea markets/farmers' markets near Hershey. Ask at the desk for the list of these. There's one on Tuesdays called Roots and one on Saturdays called Saturdays, I think? They're HUGE, with lots of Pennsylvania Dutch farmers selling produce and baked goods, plus everybody else selling everything else. The activities director will tell you all about these. We loved them!
