  • New BG owner-questions

My wife and I just bought a timeshare through BG. Included with our points we have what they refer to as "Charter Members" which includes VIP Program (unlimited bonus time and bonus weeks at all bluegreen resorts) Bluegreen Traveler Plus(hot week getaways, Cruises, Outdoor travel experiinces, grand yachut club, rv camping and etc.).

Here are a few things BG Sales told us about our time share. We could book bonus days (min. 2 days) at any bluegreen resort for $59 to $89 per night and no points (save our points for some big trip). Could book a bonus week at a bluegreen resort for $250 and no points. We could book a week at a bluegreen resort anytime of year and if we wanted to use points for the entire weeks stay or use points for monday through thursday when those days don't use alot of points and on friday and saturday that took alot of points use bonus days which we would pay the $59 to $89 and save our points for those days. If we use a resort through RCI we would have to use our points and Pay $179. Does all of this sound correct.

    Sales critter

Some of this stuff is true and some of this stuff is misleading. Send Boca Bum (Jim) a message-he wrote a lot of the messages with the stickies. Jim knows more about bluegreen then any person on the planet. Jim will talk you through bluegreen.

Jim is also an authorized resale agent-I bought my package from Jim. You could rescind the package you bought. You would not be posting if you did not have second thoughts. Jim will listen to you and sell you the package that fits your needs-his prices are much better then the resorts.

I am not having second thoughts I just want to know and understand everything there is to BG so I can benefit the most from my timeshare. We asked alot of questions at the sales,we where there for over five hours and they offered us two free nights to come back to a owners meeting within the next 3 months but the next three months doesn't work with our schedule right now. It seems to be a great program and we would like to get as much as we can from it.

There is also a yahoo group Bluegreen vacation Owners. That site is more active than this one.

bluegreen : Bluegreen Vacation Club Owners

Alot of the posters are in both.

Look through the sticky threads at the top.

You can also search the treads if there is something you want to know.

Welcome to the Bluegreen Vacation Club.

We have owned since 1997, and love our vacations.

I have been a Bluegreen owner for nearly 5 years, all looks about right, not sure though on the $250.00 week , that may be through Travelers plus, and not directly bluegreen.

The best resorts do fill quickly, 11 month out...

I think bluegreen is a great vacation program

You can book bonus nights at any BG resort. You can see the current nightly rates on the Welcome to Bluegreen Online website. The rates you listed should be close.

I haven't heard of this one unless it's a really new perk.

You must book the entire reservation with points first. When you get within the bonus days time frame you can alter the points reservation and drop the weekend nights, then get those nights using bonus time. There is no guarantee you will get the same unit for the bonus nights so you might have to change rooms for the weekend. Also, you might have to pay a change fee on the original reservation when you drop the weekend nights.

This one is correct. You are doing an "exchange" when you do this and the $179 is the exchange fee, in addition to the points. This allows you, though, to book at other resorts in the RCI system if you want to go somewhere that does not have a BG resort.

And if you don't get the bonus nights before changing the points reservation, those nights can disappear so you can't get in at all. I don't do bonus time so I don't know if that's common, but I do know it's happened. I suspect that's more likely to happen when bonus time first pops up for those dates, since lots of savvy BG owners are looking to get in. Weekends tend to be the more popular days for bonus time year 'round. It's pretty common when we go off season that the resort's half empty during the week and then packed on the weekend, and a lot of those weekenders are there are bonus time.

Be careful in trying to "trick" the system by reserving a full week and then canceling part of the week and using Bonus Time for the rest. A quirk of the BG reservation system is that when you make a change they have to first cancel the old reservation and then make the new reservation. During that short time someone else may grab your reservation and then you have nothing. Some will claim that doesn't happen but it has happened to me. (I wasn't trying to "trick" the system. We made a 3 bed reservation and then extended family backed out so we only needed 2 beds. Ended up with nothing for that week.)

The $179 RCI fee is for online reservation. It is more if you do it by phone.

Everything else looks good except I am not 100% positive on the $250 for a week with no points. Was that thru RCI?
