  • Questions about owner updates...

    I have seen several posts about owner updates and what a pain in the patooty they are. What exactly are they? Are they mandatory? If not, why go? What is the benefit?

    I think I kind of know what they are(partially anyway). I think it is a meeting you go to to hear about what is new and available to owners. If that is the case, why don't they just send it in the mail?

    "Owner update" is usually just another way of saying "sales pitch". The reasoning seems to be, you bought one timeshare, why not another.

    It seems to vary somewhat by developer. Some owner updates actually give helpful information along with the sales pitch. Others don't even bother. Some companies have more agressive salepeople than others.

    The "benefit" is usually an incentive of some kind: $100-$150 in cash, some kind of gift card. Some gift to suck you in.

      That's what they are, just a sales pitch.

          People who have bought the "Sampler" package have to take a mandatory "Update". The rest of us do not.

            Ok, so here is what I gathered from the responses I got;
            owner updates are just sales pitches to get you to buy more, they are not mandatory, there is no real benefit in going(other than the token "incentive").

            That sound about right? Thanks guys.

              I went to an owner update on Friday, and it was actually informative and helpful.
              That is 1 out of a dozen (more or less).

              I learned about some of the new resorts including getting some fliers for those resorts (some of the resorts were mentioned in the annual meeting posting in Sept.) and I also was able to find out which resorts and weeks were are deeded with.
              I did learn more about the Traveler Plus level 3, but haven't truly figured out level 2 vs. 3, what was added to both and what is only on 3.
