  • Hershey Park Recommendations

So after having done some ample research regarding things to do on our trip we are obviously going to Hershey Park, Chocolate World, Zoo America, and the Pocono NASCAR race in addition to some relaxing at the resort. Can anybody tell me how many days I should expect to spend at Hershey Park?

They have the 2 and 3 day passes and not sure which I should get. Like everywhere else, the more days you go the less expensive it gets, but I want to make sure we get a little bit of everything in.

I went last year. You can see it in one day if you don't do the water park part but that seemed to be the most fun part. It's a small park, nowhere the size of a Disney park. Very doable in one day if the lines aren't long. Lots of coasters. If you have time to do the water parks then I think it's worth getting a 2 days pass and spending one day doing the coasters and the other in the wave pools.

Also take a day to visit the Lancaster county area and see all the Amish stuff. It was interesting. There is also a wine country drive that you could do and visit some of the PA wineries if you like that sort of stuff. It's a beautiful way to see the countryside of PA.

The Hershey museum sells a self guided CD that you can do a city tour on your own and stop along the way. I used it and found it interesting and it's cheaper than doing the trolley type tours plus you can stop for lunch or dinner at the Hershey Hotel.

What time of year are you going Spring/Summer/Fall? Are you taking children and if so what ages or just adults?

Don't know if Gettysburg is of appeal to Canadians but the guided tours are great.

Max 2 days inside Hershey park if you want to ride every ride ( and some twice ) in summer.

Is the pocono raceway near Hershey. Kelli & I went on the tour there while we were staying at Shawnee. It wasn't all that great alho Kelli enjoyed it.

Kelli has always asked me to take her to Hershey, some day, some day.

We are going in August from the fourth to the 11th. Not sure about kids, as whether my Dad or my 13 year old niece is coming still up in the air. Neither really does amusement parks by the niece likes water parks.

Gettysburg does appeal, and it is on the itinerary (at least one day). My Mom and Karen will definitely enjoy that part.

Does the two days include getting to see zoo America?

The raceway is actually about 2 hours north (I could have planned a little better, but oh well) worth it though since it is closer to the resort than for us to do a weekend trip just for the race.

Again Karen and my Mom will enjoy this more so than myself. The wine country drive sounds the most appealing to me! I do not even drink wine on most occasions.

Zooamerica is pretty small. Admission is included in the price of the HersheyPark tickets, or if you get tickets on their own, Zooamerica only costs about $10 per person.

Our favorite thing was going to the huge flea markets they have near Hershey. Ask the nice activity director lady for advice. She gave us a special list of the flea markets, recommendations, extra directions....the flea markets were FANTASTIC, huge sprawling things with antiques, fruit and vegetables, baked goods, flea market stuff, crafts, you name it! But they are truly in the middle of nowhere, and each one is only one day of the week--like one is only on Tuesdays, one is only on Fridays. And each one is about 30-45 minutes away through the countryside.

P.S. They have food too. Get a pit beef sandwich for me. OMG, soooo good!
