  • Interest in Bluegreen from an Irish family

Hi Guys – I’ve been directed here from the TUG website to find out more about the BG timeshare’s. I do own a Sheraton week in Orlando, which I am happy with (Bought in 2006) but I did pay full price for it and will never be caught like that again…

I visit Florida around 4 or 5 times a year almost exclusively to fish and have been told that Bluegreen timeshares can be picked up pretty cheaply. I was looking at THE HAMMOCKS AT MARATHON and wouldn’t mind a couple of weeks there. Do I need to buy that resort for max usage or can I buy anywhere and use points to get weeks at the Hammocks?

I’m pretty green regarding timeshare speak so if you could dumb things down for me I’d appreciate it. You guys are so much more clued into timeshares than we are here in Ireland.

    Thanks in advance…

Depending on when you go and how flexible you are, you should be good with points from anywhere. If you really want a particular week and absolutely aren't going to use any other BG resort, you should probably buy there. With Bluegreen, if you reserve the weeks you own before 11 months, you get them. That's the only home resort advantage (unless you are buying resale and want bonus time somewhere).

At 11 months, all unclaimed points go in a common pot, so if you can make your reservations that far out, your odds are pretty good getting the Hammocks. When Anita was tracking availability this past year there was usually something there, anyhow. It is a small resort, though, so I expect holiday weekends can be tough to get. And 2 BRs are tougher to get than 1 BR, memory serves.

There is a points chart at the Yahoo Bluegreen group; sign up there and you can get a good idea of how many points you'll need.

Thanks Hobbitess. I’ll sign up to that group soon. Got to get my head round TUG and this forum first. I can be pretty organised if forced to and could plan trips well in advance. I could see me doing at least two weeks to The Hammocks every year and maybe a couple more elsewhere in Florida where the fishing is hot. By the way, I just seen two one week TS (back to back, same private seller) for sale at the Oasis Lakes, The Fountains, Orlando and can be picked up for the cost of transferring the deeds. MF is around £500 each (approx. $750-$800) which I’d be comfortable with.

My eyes are starting to burn out of my head looking at this screen, I’ve been on so many web sites this last couple of days trying to do a bit of research and educate myself and I think I’m suffering from information overload. Anyway, thanks once again.

Buying deeded weeks at Oasis is not the same as buying BG points.
Bluegreen vacation club points offer great flexibility in booking when, where and unit sizes that you want.
If you buy fixed weeks at Oasis, that is what you will get, those two weeks.

Start reading the stickies at the top of this page and also start going thru the various posts.
I was a BG newbie two years ago and am now a happy owner.

BG points can be had for almost only the cost of transfer alone.
It will make your life much easier dealing with a professional that can make sure your points are all in the same trust fund to keep your maint fee in a reasonable amount.

Contact Bocabum Jim thru this board to help you get the number of points you need at minimal cost.
I really love the flexibility of points, booking what I need when I want them and not have to pay numerous fees.

The major problem would be finding points for sale that are backed up by the desired weeks at Marathon. I am guessing that Marathon is sold out and the only weeks one would find would be on the resale market.

I just joined this forum to research selling my parents points timeshare which is with Bluegreen. My parents are on the points system and have 16000 yearly points for use at any of the Bluegreen resort locations. Of course this would be a hugh discount considering original purchase prices. Thanks for your time and look forward to hearing from you.
