  • Drawbacks on purchasing a biennial

Having some buyer's remorse. I agreed to purchase an odd year 26K contract. I like the contract because it is deeded to Myrtle Beach and weeks 29 and 32. Week 32/33 falls on my birthday and I can actually see us using this some of the time. I also liked having Myrtle Beach as home resort for possible eventual bonus time. I know that it would be rare during prime red which is when we can travel now, but looking to the future, when we are no longer tied to school schedule, maybe it would be handy during April, May, Sept, Oct.

From what I have read, I have determined that I will need to pay the 2014 maintenance fees in 2013 in order to have prime red access to all 26k points, and to possibly book both units. I have not determined if the fees need to be paid before the week is booked in July 2012 or to be paid on the normal due date of 11/1/2012.

Is there anything else I need to be aware of with an every other year contract? I do not plan on purchasing any other BG points, although I might have said that prior to our first Wyndham purchase .

    Thanks in advance.

Your points will be put into your account on the aniversary date each odd year, however when you pay your MF fee on the November of the even year, you can request your points to be put into your account, you don't have to wait.

I have 63,000 EOY points, they work great.

      Thank you very much Colin!

You were the only one to take the time to answer my question, but your answer was very straightforward and easy to understand.

I tried to get a straightforward answer from a variety of sources previously, but it doesn't appear that alot of people have experience with these and I received all kinds of answers about borrowing, saving, high red, low red, and all manner of things that just confused me. I finally figured that I would just wait until the ownership transferred and then figure it out then. But your answer has helped.

Now I am curious, I was told that I am not responsible for maintenance fees until Nov 2012 but my anniversary date is July with the underlying weeks being high red weeks in Myrtle Beach that I would like to book. My gut feeling tells me that I will have to pay the Nov 2012 maintenance fees in June or July of 2012 if I want to book my underlying weeks and units (it is 2 contracts of 13,000 points each). I have received mixed answers on this also. Can you help me with this question, too?

      Thank you very much!

        Maintenance Payment

We have 30K points each year to use broken down with anniversary dates as: July biennial (15K), July annual (7K) and November annual (8K). We pay for the whole 30K maintenance fee by the July 1 deadline ($1800 includes: .045 cents per point (Trust E), $320 base fee and $129 Travelers Plus). The biennial points do not bother us since we have an overlap of annual points and we use the biennials up first.

To Lisa...if my understanding is correct (I have the same issue as you, points earn date vs. when the reservation needs to be booked in order to get it), you are correct. The fees need to be paid at the time the reservation is made...so if you want to use your 2013 points in July, can book the reservation in Aug...2012 (11 month rule), maintenance fees need to be paid at that time...with a possible adjustment if they change in November or when they are announced for the new year/
