  • Hope this is the right place

So, before I ask my question let it be known that I debated and considered whether this would be better asked in the HOA section so feel free to move this thread.

Having poured through the resorts, seasonality, point maximization if I want to travel non-peak times where can I go where stuff is still open what would people recommend? For example, my trip to NW is probably going to be quiet since not much is open.

Atlantic City I can go to and be sure something is going on, although I will avoid weekends like the plague (unless I can get bonus time). There are so many destinations I want to go to such as Branson, Myrtle Beach, and both Virginia and Tennessee.

Unless it is after the long weekend in May though, on several occasions I have found there are many local attractions not yet open (Mountain Run @ Boyne is a perfect example). Some are not "close by" but I do not mind driving so that does not matter to me. However, I am an excursion person and do NOT like sitting at the resort if possible. So the more I can do the better.

If you could pick four or five resorts, off-season to go to what would you choose.

I guess it depends on what you want to do? I know Branson and the pigeon forge area's run pretty much year round for shows and stuff, if your into that. Also in Tenn and VA there is the national parks near by, and lots of winery's in that area of VA (PM me if your interested, I live 20 miles from Shenandoah). Williamsburg in VA is open year round, and has some good shopping. (the theme park has a Christmas and Halloween schedule).

I like Florida in late Sept, early Oct, the crowds are lessened, and the weather is still good.

Are you talking just BG resorts?
If so, then I'd say Hershey, Charleston, World Golf Village, Fountains, Solara, Marathon, Big Cedar and Williamsburg. Well maybe Hershey and Williamsburg in the shoulder off season but not the dead of winter off season.

I think any of the Florida resorts would fit the bill - for a Canadian, even white season would be warm enough and it is obviously a year round destination.

I know a member of the Yahoo Owners group enjoys Myrtle Beach in February/March.

Williamsburg year round has plenty to do......

La Cabana has very low point requirements in the red season - the studio units are nicer IMO then the 1BR - both have almost the same square footage, again, a year round destination.

It all depends on where u want to go.

Yes, he wants to maximize his points.....
I would not recommend Hershey - too cold, limited off season activities, no???

I was thinking more shoulder seasons.
I went in August so there was plenty to do.

There might be a few things to do in off season but honestly not sure.
Maybe visit some of the historic sites nearby like Gettysburg was what I was thinking but there are also some active things to do like ziplining.
And chocolate is good any time of year.

You can't do everything in the winter that you can in the summer, but there's still a fair bit to do in the area. Hershey's Chocolate World is open year 'round, as is the car museum (although I do think the car museum is better when the docents are there, however they were there on the weekends when we visited in March). Weekends are more lively; for instance, February is "Wine and Chocolate Month" so stuff to do with that every weekend at various wineries.

There's stuff to do during the week but you have to look for it -- lots of factory tours, shopping, museum kind of stuff, along with buggy rides and presentations on the Amish lifestyle and whatnot. Great place in the winter for those who like to do a bit of research before going. Warm it is not, but it's warmer than where we live and a lot less snowy, and of course the indoor pool is heated, so was nice for a break.
