  • Rolling points over to the following year

I understand that if I roll over points into the following year, I can only use those points in that following year to book 'red' season (or less), and not book ultra red or high red. Is that correct?

I also understand that if I have an EOY contract that I can only roll 50% of my points into the next year. Is that also correct?

Finally, if I have points that expire February 28 (next week) for example, can I use those points online today to book a reservation with a check in date 6 months from now? In other words, do my points have to be used by the end of my use year, or do I simply have to book them by the end of the use year?

    Thanks for your answers!

    Joe

Correct. Be aware that it now costs $35 (I think it is) to roll your points over, and you must request it -- it doesn't happen automatically any more.

I believe half of them "roll over" (are only good for red or below), but all are good for the full two years. But I don't have an EOY so could be wrong there. I have no idea how the new fee works with EOY points.

It used to be, with a regular ownership, you had to use the points before they'd expire, and they would roll over after 1 year and expire after the next. Now they will expire after one year if you don't have them rolled over; otherwise they expire after two years. If you make a reservation with them outside of that first year, you have to pay the roll over fee when you make the reservation.

So if you mean "expire" as in "two year anniversary for those points," then, no, you can't use them in six months. If you mean "expire" as in "one year anniversary for those points," then you can still use them for another year, but that use is limited to red season or below.

If points are about the expire that means they are saved points.
I believe you can use those points that expire next week to book something with RCI as an exchange, pay the exchange fee, and make that reservation for up to 2 years into the future. You'll have to have enough points to make the reservation. This would be an exchange or 7 nights. Or you can use Travelers Plus to makes nightly exchanges if you have Travelers Plus.

I believe you are correct, and I'm ashamed I didn't think of it.

If you have a biennial account (say 10000 biennial points) and your last earn date was 3/1/11 and you have not used any points, then you need to take immediate action or you will lose points.

Your account will say that you have 5000 annual points expiring 2/29/12. And, you will have 5000 biennial points expiring 2/28/13.

You need to either save your annual points online for $35. Or, book an RCI vacation right away with those points. You will NOT be able to book those annual points into a Bluegreen reservation unless it checks in prior to 3/1/12 without paying first to save the points.

Take action before Wed. Or you will lose points. Good luck.

              Thank you, Jim

The dates were actually a hypothetical example - but I sure appreciate your concern.

Not exactly! Points expire after one year. However, you can save them for a second year for a fee which gives you a new (and final) expiration date.

Yep. I assumed they were already saved and those were about to expire.
