  • Shenandoah Crossing Non-smoker in cabins

I have exactly enough points to rent a 2BR cabin at Shenandoah. Made the reservation, then saw that they allow smoking in cabins.

Cannot (for asthma reasons) put my family in a unit which may have had a cigar convention in it only hours before I check in. As a new owner and someone who bought into this for family vacations, I am unimpressed with this.

Called the resort. The only solution that they can offer is to put an ionizer in the room, but they did mention that "our 3BRs are non-smoking and you could call corporate about this."

I don't have the points for that and don't need the 3rd BR. I know it's a longshot, but do you think that I could get corporate to give me a 3BR (or even the 2BR side of a lockout) for the same points?

The three bedroom cabins at Shenandoah are not lock offs, so they couldn't really give you just the two bedroom side. I have been in one of them and they are very nice and new looking. Some of the older cabins are a bit more secluded from the adjacent cabins, but I do remember they allowed smoking. We stayed in one and it was fine - I also don't like smoke. But, I guess it would be the luck of the draw. They do have fireplaces inside so there could be a smoky smell associated with that. Again, wasn't the case in the cabin we stayed in.

Another suggestion, if you are OK with not having a cabin, the two bedroom town homes are really nice and they do not allow smoking. The town homes come in 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and 3 bedroom models - and they are locks offs. Also, there are two styles of yurts that have two bedrooms - they are pretty luxurious and do not allow smoking. There are campgrounds for tents and RVs, and you can actually rent an RV as well - don't think they allow smoking but not sure whether you need the privacy of two bedrooms - the RVs hold at least 4, but probably wouldn't be as private. There is an inn and the manor house, but I don't think you can use points there.

If you are flexible with your accomodations, I would give Corporate a call and let them know your concern. Maybe they can get you into something that would be non-smoking. Shenandoah is beautiful - we have really enjoyed it the two times we have been there - they even have horseback riding and wagon rides. What time of year will you be going - we have been during both spring and fall - both beautiful times.

      We're going in late August.

Called BG's 800 number yesterday, no real help there. For the time that we're there, only cabins show up on the owner side of reservations. There is a 3BR listed on the BG cash rentals website, but not available for points and I don't have enough points anyway. This reservation uses up every single point that I had remaining in my account (which is good) but I don't have the "extra points" even if the 3BR were available on the points side.

Can't believe that they don't have at least some of the cabins designated as non-smoking.

Guess we'll take our chances and if it's too smoky in the cabin, try for a change when we get there, hope that it's not too hot to just keep the windows open all the time or demand that they give us every ionizer on the property.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get something worked out. I agree they should have some non-smoking cabins. Maybe they figure with the wood burning fire places in there people won't have an issue with the smoke. Then again, the 3 bedroom cabins also have wood burning fire places. We did not have a problem with the cabin we stayed in. Also, most likely it won't be too hot to get a little ventilation if need be.

I don't remember the points break down for the town homes, yurts, and RVs -and I don't think the Inn can be booked with points. It is on the Bluegreen website though. Maybe one of the other accomodations will become available and won't be any more points than the 2 bedroom cabin. We stayed in the two bedroom town home and it was really nice. Keep checking the website frequently - inventory comes and goes all the time as people modify or cancel plans. Good luck! I am sure you will enjoy it. And, it is great when the points work out just right - that is hard to do.
