  • Using points past their expiration

My points refresh on 8/1 and the one from 2011-2012 "expire" (I thought) on 7/31.

Without considering this, I booked a reservation for August and the system took it. I now have zero points available (fine) and zero points eligible to be "saved"

    Questions:

    1. Should the system have taken the reservation?

    2. Since I have a confirmation code, should I worry about these points expiring?

I just don't want to drive 10 hours to be told that my reservation is no good because the points were expired.

    Thanks

Given the information provided it is difficult to answer. Had you chose the option to save your points already? If you did, they would have automatically rolled over to 2012/2013 meaning they were good till July 31, 2012.

If you go to the My Points link under My Account you will get a grid that shows the details of your points. For peole like myself with mutiple contracts is is vital. I always print this, before making a reservation to see. This way I see where the points are taken from. On several occasions the online system has taken the wrong points and call to get it corrected.

Secondly, if the reservation you made in August was in RED season, the saved points from 2011/2012 would have been eligible if they were elected to be saved.

Finally, what was the actual date's of the reservation? If you booked a reservation to start July 29 to August 4, since the start of the reservation is prior to the expiration date tahn I believe you are fine.

If you did not elect to save your 2011/2012 points then unless start date was prior to August 1 you should not have been able to make the reservation.

The reservation is in a Red week.

It is a couple of weeks into August so no chance of it being "bridged" from the end of july.

My account is very simple. 10K "non-premier" points per year. This reservation was basically what was left from our "main" vacation for the 2011-2012 cycle.

Nothing marked saved and I'm sure I didn't pay to have them saved as I was planning to use them up this summer.

If your concerned, I would contact BlueGreen to enquire. AFAIK you should not have been able to make that reservation if you had not saved your points. Not being able to see your points PRIOR to the transaction does unfortunately provide no additional info.

You must have had some saved points in your account that were used for the reservation. I don't there there would be a 'saved' entry with a 2013 expire date listed if that wasn't the case.
