  • Bluegreen getting DVC through RCI

Do most DVC units go to people who initiated searches? Is that what I would probably have to do in order to get a 1 or 2 bedroom at Bay Lake Towers? Does it cost $ to initiate a search? If yes, do you pay only if a match is made and you actually pay the RCI fee?

Also, does this forum have a sightings thread? or is the only one available the one on TUG that costs money?

Yes most of the good units in DVC are picked up with ongoing searches although I suggest that you also keep searching yourself because some of those searches have been known to not function as they should and units get by without matching.

Yes you prepay the exchange fees to start an ongoing search unless RCI is running a special although those free ongoing searches are the ones plagued with hit and miss matching. If you don't get a match then the credit will stay on your account for future use or you can call them and cancel it for a refund.

Yes we have a DVC sightings forum here and no there is no fee to join unless you'd like to make a donation and then the site owner may give you access to those sightings otherwise if you keep posting you will eventually have earned enough posts to see the sightings. They are usually the same sightings as on TUG since our resident DVC expert posts on both forums so you can get it here for free. Just keep posting and welcome to the forum.

I have heard of these "sightings". Are they comparable to UFO's?

Can someone explain exactly what a sighting is? (I have seen the thread referred to, I am more wondering how one uses this to their advantage, etc)

      Thanks!

Well they are identifiable to those of us that have the force with us.

A sighting is when volunteers here on the site (including me) post good exchanges that we see online sitting in any of the exchange companies.
We post the good stuff like Manhattan Club, DVC, HGVC, Marriotts, London, Paris, Key west etc.
We don't usually post the easy to get stuff.
We can also keep an eye out for something specific.

The reason the sightings threads are so valuable is that it's like having multiple eyes watching out for the good stuff.
That way you don't always have to be logging in yourself and just come here to the sightings and see some really good exchanges.
I got a nice 2 bedroom DVC at Vero last year thanks to a sighting by one of our sightings Queens.

So you should be able to see the sightings.
The post count is only 30 to see the sightings.
Are you using the Home (no exchange ops) button?
If so you won't see the sightings.
Just use the regular Home button or the new posts button.
You should also be able to scroll down after pushing the Forum button and see the sightings.
Try that. If you can't see those let me know and I'll see what's up.

I can see them, I was just never sure what to do with them. Lets say I wanted to trade into DVC. So the idea would be to sit on the sightings thread, when something I liked came through, go to the exchange company, and hope its still available?

                Is that the idea?

Yep. The downside of the sightings thread is that it alerts everyone who is interested. Heh. But with DVC, if you're looking for a studio or 1 BR, it's a quick alert that there's been a deposit.

The real advantage of sightings threads, IMHO, is for people who are interested in a number of different options that are tough to get, and just check the sightings board regularly so they can snap up something. If you "have to have" a particular unit at a particular time, setting up an ongoing search or checking daily for yourself may make more sense than checking the sightings board. But if you have some flexibility, the sightings board is a wonderful resource.

I've also noticed that studios or 1 bedrooms were 8000 pts, 2 bedrooms 11000 pts, regardless of resort, then I later saw different points like 15200. Is there rhyme or reason to what the points will be? Does it depend on Disney's "seasons"?

Sort of. It's more like Hobbitess says, to alert you to a deposit so you go check for yourself.
Of course if you only check in late in the day then you will miss the deposit cause stuff gets snapped up pretty quickly.
You will see sometimes that while our resident DVC spotter is posting that more inventory is being loaded.
I imagine that it's being loaded manually and possibly that's the reason for the delay at times.

Just check in in the mornings while having your coffee.
DVC has patterns so you will pick that up when you follow the sightings and can then just focus on the dates you are interested in.
They have been fairly predictable in their deposits and our pros have figured it out and will share that info with you to help you stay alert.

What points are these? Are these Bluegreen points?
I'm not familiar with these figures. I don't own BG.
If they are then you are seeing the fixed grid for seasons & size.
Most of the RCI corporate portals use a fixed grid for season & size.

Predictable right up until they randomly change again. But, yeah, regular posters often offer strategy tips that are as helpful as their specific postings. And I appreciate but had forgotten that aspect.
