  • Bluegreen Most Efficient Resort

Newbie here, so forgive me for my lack of knowledge.

If I were to buy a bluegreen resort and since there's no home resort priority, wouldn't I defer to the most point efficient per dollar resort instead of the home resort where I'd likely stay?

If there is one, which one is it?

    Thank you,

    Julian

This only works if those are the places you can and want to go. There are several "low point" properties, and off-season onces that offer good value (you can go for as little as $300 a week). Lake Lure, NC is one example. However, if you live on the west coast that is not going to work for you. It all depends on how and when you can travel. I could get three weeks in Lake Lure for the same as one Summer week at Hershey Suites.

There are several trusts and the MF's are based on the number of points. Some trust have a base fee plus $.xx per point. I think one is straight $.yy per point. It doesn't matter what the MF's would have been before it was deposited into the trust.

Also there is home resort priority for your deeded week and in some cases bonus time at you home resort.

Sorry - so it does matter which resort I choose? Can't I buy Lake Lure with enough points for Hershey high season? And knowing that the maintenance fees per point is cheaper than Hershey, I would be saving money?

Lake Lure is an affiliate, I do not believe that you can buy BG points tied to that property.

if you are seeking resale points, it matters which property for where your bonus time is tied to.

Regardless of points acquisition method, you always have priority on your 'owned week' until 11 months out, at which time everyone gets a crack at it.

as was mentioned, maint fees depend on the trust fund of that resort unit week, and you'd have to go digging to determine which resorts have what in which trust fund.

"Saving money" is relative to how many points you own and in which trusts. It's not a One Size Fits All answer.

But once you own points, they are good at any resort in the network.

          Hope this helps some.

As has been pointed out in the Escapes! discussion, all of this is based on the "network" still being there in the future, and actually fulfilling promises made.

History will prove out that regardless how good and sound a timeshare program may look at a point in time, that is all that can be said of it.

BoardGirl is right, you would have to buy at BG owned resort. One like Boyne or SeaGlass Towers, and then use those points towards a place like Lake Lure.

When she refers to bonus time, that is nightly stays you can get within 45 days for cash money. In that case, you only get that at your home resort and nowhere else. In what area of the country do you live? That would help us steer you in the right direction.

You do have the right general idea in that you want to buy optimally in a location you can travel to often, has a low price for point MF's wise. Keep in mind, you ONLY get guranteed rights at the 12 month mark for the week you purchase. If you want to guarantee a high demand week at Hershey, getting an off-week somewhere else is not going to help you.

I'm in PA, so I guess Hershey would be the nearest.

Doesn't matter, this points system sits on top of weeks deeded. If the vacation club falls apart, I still have the weeks that my points are tied to.

This depends on trust fund and number of points bought. "Best" is in eye of beholder and greatly depends on what OP is attempting to, and whether resale or dev (for benefits). To me, it doesn't matter where my points are attached, I use it as points vs fixed week. Someone hoping for Day Use may want to buy near home if resale.

But trust fund and number of points drive the financial side, then resale vs dev. There is not an easy answer to this question, although I could simply say "Hershey" if one is simply seeking a PA ts.

Jim, can you provide a link to the Escapes thread you mention? Searching brings me something last posted to in 2007 and I think that's probably not it ...
