The point I'm trying to make with my snide, but honest and accurate, comments in this thread is the same point that has been valid for the 20-plus years we have been timesharing, and the same point that bajillions of others have made on this and other forums, and that is . . .
It does not make a lot difference what might be perceived as the best anything . . . resort to own, exchange company, mini system, fixed, floating, Weeks, Points, etc., . . . because all of them are fleeting, in a constant state of flux, and none of them are now what they were 20 years ago, 10 years ago, or 5 years ago, and none of them 5, 10, or 20 years from now will be what they are today, if they even exist (like Escapes!, always heralded as one of the better system).
If that was not true, we would all own only at The Blue Whale and Aquamarine Villas.
We all know that the powers that be could not just leave alone the simplest, easiest to understand, and, to this point, the best (yet flawed) system ever, the original thin-crust one. We all know they had to tamper with it, make it more complicated, tweak it to provide more revenue . . .
So, sure, do your homework like many of us did . . . just don't count on it to be what you thought it would be, or last if it is.

This however is no different than anything else in the rest of the world? I respect your experience and your wisdom. However in this day and age you have to be able to learn to adapt and change. If you don't you will get left behind and that is a simple fact of life. You can either choose to live with it and complain, or do something about it. The serenity prayer comes to mind. Many people here adapted, others did not.

My comments are more about unfulfilled promises, what is said to get your bucks, and what is changed to get more, rather than a natural evolution.
Y'all know that timesharing cannot be accurately compared to anything else.
People come to this, and other, forums asking for "what is best", and part of the answer to them should always be that what is best now won't be some day, so that someone considering getting into timesharing understands that.
They also need to understand that when it changes to something they may not want, or use, or when they change to someone who may not not want or use it, they will be stuck with it.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Just to add the obvious about your current excitement . . . one day that will not be the case. I'm not saying that to dampen your excitement, because I truly hope it lasts as long as ours did. I'm saying it because that day will come.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Tempting, though.
The truth is that you can't just give away an ongoing financial obligation.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

The one time we went to a TS presentation, the sales person was trying to convince us how easily we could afford what he was offering, and I said, "Yeah, but what if hubby croaks? I don't want to be saddled with that ongoing obligation while trying to find a job and support my family." Totally threw the salesguy. Apparently most wives don't say that sort of thing. But we also never seriously considered buying from the developer; we both figured there had to be a resale market somewhere, which I guess is also odd. We view vacations as important for mental health, and good for building family relationships, but a dead loss on the economic front. Plus we have as good a time on our "freebie" vacations (where we spend nothing on entertainment or shopping and don't eat out) as we do on the pricey ones, but we hate hotels, like resorts, and need a full kitchen, so it's not a vacation unless we're in a condo. And we much prefer using our ownership to renting, although we do rent sometimes (always at BG resorts thus far ). So while we do see our ownership as important and valuable, it is still a pretty small part of our over-all finances and should not be a hardship in the long run.

Let's all meet back here in 20 years and compare notes.
