  • BG Rental...What Would You Do?

I have 5500 points that are going to roll over Sept 30th and I want to book something to rent out. I called BG and they gave me 3 options and they all are studios checking in on Sept. 30th:

    1. Laurel Crest at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

    2. Mountain Run at Boyne Falls, Michigan

    3. Big Cedar at Ridgedale, Missouri

The Mountain Run option might be the right time for the fall colors but I am not sure. Any thoughts or other ideas that would be a good renter on such a short notice?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,

Do you want to rent to get some money or do you just not have time to use your points before they expire? If it's the latter, you may want to consider using the points to nab the Big Cedar studio and deposit it with RCI (which I know for a fact accepts BC studios). That way you get two more years to use the week...

      Mountain Run at Boyne

      Mike,

What do you mean when you say roll-over? Do you mean that they will become saved points?

Remember, you don't have to rent a full week. Boyne Mountain is a ski resort in the winter and I've had good luck renting Sunday to Friday or Monday to Friday vacations. The nice thing is that Weeks 1-13 are red weeks and can utilize saved points. There are not a ton of rooms in that area except for Boyne Mountain and Mountain Run at Boyne. I'd try to put a one bedroom on Ebay for $200 for a Monday - Friday. That's $50 per night for them and a pretty decent return on 1,400 points. Three rooms at 1,400 points puts you at 4,200 points. Add a Sunday onto one of them and spend 5,200 points. Ebays fees aren't too bad.

I live in Michigan and before we got sucked in on the developer side by Bluegreen, we used to pay $140 per night to drive 35 minutes in the blizzards to ski at Boyne. Now we pay $59 per night for Bonus time to walk out behind the condo and ski to the lift. I agree with Boca - Bonus Time Rocks!

That's the beauty of Bluegreen. You don't need to rent whole weeks.

Just my opinion, FWIW. Be flexible and you'll come out fine.

I want to rent so I can apply the money to a purchase of annual points I made. Robo, yes I mean the points will become saved points.

I never thought about part of a week in Red time that might be the way to go but it sure would be nice to have only 1 week to rent. All the paperwork and stuff that goes with renting weeks is not for me. (Thank you again Bruce if you read this)

        Thank you for your suggestions
        Mike

rci, I have no idea what the studios are like at Mountain Run or Big Cedar, but at Laurel Crest they are like a teenie tiny hotel room. We have used them at Laurel Crest as part of a 2BR suite and I went one weekend in October by myself and it was perfect. But, if the DH had been with me, I guarantee, he would not have liked it.

Are lock outs and studios the same size?

Just so you know, Mountain Run has only 1 and 2 BR. Here's a floor plan for them

              http://bluegreenowner.com/resorts/po...upWeather=PETY

The 3 bedroom is the 1 and 2 BR combo that share a vestibule.

The 1 BR might be kind of tight for 4 adults/teens but ok for 2 adults/2 kids.

                Virginia...BC trading power

I am leaving this Saturday to stay at Mountain Run for a week. That will give me a chance to check it out.

Virginia, what kind of trading power did you get for the BC studio you exchanged to RCI?

Mike, I'm not sure if you've been there before, but if you want any specific info about the area let me know. This is a little so, Boca, split it if you think it should be.

One thing to know is that BG has a pool but its kind of small and cold. We spent most of our time at Boyne's pool which is much bigger and warmer. Plus they have a sweet 40 person hot tub.

Also, they have a catch and release trout pond in front of the old Boyne's resort. There were at least 20 large trout swimming around. They won't touch worms but we fooled them into taking some of the fish food that you can buy and we landed 3 nice trout. Of course, my 9 year old daughter landed the 22 incher.

We also spent a ton of time at the Deer Lake Beach Club that Boyne owns (it's about 5 miles away) and Young State Park has a nice sand beach about 15 minutes away.

If you want any further info, give me a PM and I'll see if I can help you out.

                  Rob

We still haven't decided what to do with the BC studio (which is for November 2006!), but I just pulled a search for California in September 2007 and here's what I got:

Note that all of these are silver or gold crown resorts. I then did a search for Europen Alps in September:

                    Clubhotel Am Kreischberg (#6756)
St. Georgen Ob Murau, 8861, Austria

LTH Resort at Alpine & Golfhotel Interstar (#1064)

Maeva Clubhotel Megève Mont D'Arbois (#1509)
                    Megève, 74120, France

Marco Polo Club Hotel Happy (#1074)
                    Kaprun, A-5710, Austria
                    Available Unit Size - H - H
                    Check-in Date Range - 09/08/2007 - 09/08/2007

                    * * *

Not too shabby -- one silver crown and two hospitality resorts. Considering I spent 3000 points on the BC studio (again, in November! and not over Thanksgiving), I think the trading power is amazing.
