  • What is the best way to purchase more points?

My husband and I have been Bluegreen owners since 2007 and we have enjoyed it every year since. I know how to use the points, bonus time, and other travelers plus benefits, but I know nothing about their worth and the best way to purchase more points. I've been reading other posts in this forum and it seems that where you are deeded makes a difference in value. We have 2 X 8000 biannual points, one deeded to the Fountains and one deeded to the Sea Glass Towers. My first question is are these good deeds to have? What deeds are most desirable?

Even with using bonus time, we never seem to have enough points and want to purchase more at some point. My second question is what is the best way to buy more points? Do we have to buy more points through Bluegreen? I see posts of people giving away points. What does this mean? Can I have points transferred to me from someone that wants to get rid of their membership and use the points the same way as my current points? Are there restrictions? I guess what I really want to know is why would I spend another $5000 to $10000 on points through the Bluegreen sales office when I can pay a $275 transfer fee and get the points for little to nothing?

Any advise would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

OK, somehow I skimmed past the sticky note on buying points. Thank you, that post helped clarify some of my questions. How do I find an authorized reseller? Are there any cons to buying through an authorized reseller instead of directly from the resort.
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the forum.

I'm not a BG points owner only weeks owner, so I'll do the best I can for now until someone with more points experience comes along to address all your questions.

Once you purchase a package directly from BG you can add on quite inexpensively by buying into the same trust fund and type of points.
Don't mix trust funds so you don't pay two base fees.
You'll want to match what you already own in to keep fees down.

I believe you combine resale points with your directly purchased points for everything within the club.
I'm not sure about how that works with exchanging in RCI.
I believe you can combine those points but I'll defer to a points owner to definitively answer you.

We have a resident forum member who is an official reseller of BG points and can guide you to what would work best in your situation.
      His name is Boca Bum.

You may want to join the BG owners yahoo group for more in-depth insider info.

We do have quite a few happy BG owners here so stick around and they'll be along to answer your questions.

Since you purchased directly from Bluegreen, you already have qualified points with all the bells and whistles.

And since you purchased in 2007, you are most likely in trust fund E. (call Bluegreen and ask which trust fund you are and in and which sales type)

If you purchase resale(even for $1) the same trust fund you will have only one base fee and all your points will have the same status. So if you add another 10K yearly points in trust fund E, your maint fee will go up by 10K X $0.0502 = $502 per year,

Where your points are deeded only matters if you want to reserve your underlying deeded week at 13-11 months before check-in, otherwise points are points. Some owners WANT and NEED a cabin at Big Cedar every summer so those deeds seem to go for more $$ but as you have seen, many people are giving away points - just make sure your trust fund are the same and you will be fine.

The advantage of buying from an authorized reseller is that they can get you points with all the perks. As GrayFal said, you've got those, so you probably don't need authorized points (unless you're bound and determined to go bronze or something).

I would try to find someone who can walk you through the process of buying resold points; we bought 8000 points for $5 some years back, and although we found the seller on our own we still pulled in Boca Bum (who posts here) to facilitate the process. There are transfer fees -- I think they're $450 now -- so unless the seller pays transfer fees (and some do), that's your minimum price, and you'd have to do all the paperwork on your own. Having Boca do our paperwork kicked it up a bit, one or two hundred maybe.

The yahoo Bluegreen group is more active than this subforum (however I much prefer the way this board is structured); if you post there you could probably find someone who has purchased recently and can get you some tips. I think if you poke around there's also a chart there so you can figure out what trust fund your points are in, or what trust fund the points you're eying are in, assuming it's been updated with the current maintenance fees.

With Trust Fund E, there's another quirk you have to watch out for, but I can't even remember what it's called at the moment. Adding on points can change your anniversary date to the date of the purchased points, was part of it I believe.

I am also wanting to purchase more Bluegreen points. I currently have 13K charter points. I understand Boca Jim is no longer selling. Who should I contact? I would lake an authorized reseller because I would like to be able to add enough to go to silver or possibly gold. Or am I safe to purchase for almost nothing online from someone who wants to get rid of theirs?

I think the only authorized reseller is Pinnacle.

They are actually owned by Bluegreen

I just wanted to thank everyone for the help. This will give a good place to start and I have learned a lot from this forum. I think I will check out the Bluegreen group too. Thanks again!
