  • Trading into DVC/Disney with Bluegreen Points

hi ..we own 15000 every year points. would like to take family to Disney in 2016...I semi understand paying maintenance fees ahead so we can use 30000 points...should we book a bluegreen place or exchange for somewhere actually on Disney property? how would we do that? thank you so much for your time

Hi and welcome to the forum..

When you use BG points you have to go thru the RCI portal that is in your BG account.
You should see what is available and how many points it will cost you when you search.
Disney deposits about 5-7 months in advance of the date but this could change at any time.
You should start your ongoing search (paid in advance) as soon as you are sure of your
dates with RCI for your best shot at getting what you want.
Disney is not a tough exchange if you are flexible with your resort choices.
Just don't fixate on only BLT and be willing to accept SSR or OKW if you are going at a
tough time like spring break or Presidents Day week.

There is a grid of points that is used to trade in RCI.
I don't own BG points so not sure what the grid is exactly but I'm sure someone with
BG points will come along to share that info with you.

My suggestion is to try to stay at Disney.
The grid will cost you the same no matter where you stay in Orlando so might as well
stay at a nicer place, especially if Disney parks is in your plans.

      Here is the crossover grid
      https://bluegreenowner.com//MS/Resor...01_15_2010.pdf

almost the entire year is considered red in FL so you need to plan 18,000 for a 2BR and 11,000 for a 1BR.
Yes, you should pre-pay your maint fee so you have 30,000 points in your account.
Yes, you should request all the Disney onsite resorts because it cost you the same amount of points to stay at Disney as it does to stay off site.
Once you have your 30,000 points in your account - start an ongoing search with RCI for all the Disney resorts and the dates that are acceptable to you.
I would do the request at least 12-14 months ahead of your travel dates…if you do this, you will (almost certainly) be successful unless you are trying for a holiday week such as Xmas/New Years and Easter.

If you have a family of 4, you will be fine in a 1BR even if you need a rollaway for one of the kids if not same sex.
If there are more then 4 of you, go for the 2BR.

      Good Luck.
      Pat

Many if the 1 bedrooms in Disney are putting in Murphy beds in addition to the sleeper sofa or have an additional twin sleeper in the living room. So some of the rooms now sleep 5

This should become a sticky, or at least put in the FAQ. Great explanation GrayFal!

Christine, could you do the research and list here which 1BRs sleep 5 with a murphy bed/allow a roll away.

All of the 1 bedrooms allow 5 adults for DVC members and RCI trades. The ones without murphy beds or sleeper chairs require you to bring your own bedding and "bed" (usually an air mattress).

So if the extra bed (murphy/sleeper chair) is not there, you must bring your own, no rollaways for lending or rent?

I have never encountered this at Disney unless you are going over the occupancy limits.

Right, no roll always at Disney. OKW, BLT, and AKV have the extra sleeper chair in the 1 bedroom. The VWL studio also sleeps 5 with a Murphy bed. All other 1 bedrooms allow 5 but only have 1 king bed and 1 queen sleeper sofa.

                        Thanks for that.
Here is a picture of the Murphy bed.
It's not your typical Murphy bed.
I'd say it's made for a child or a small adult.

Hello, I am jumping in here. We are new BG owners, this past Feb. We bought 7000 points. We still have 6100 left for this year. Will get another 7000 March first. We want to take our nieces and nephews to Disney too and trade to stay at Disney. We will need to sleep 6 to 8. I have talked with BG several different times and am a bit confused on the best way to handle this. Can you give me your view please? I actually thought about spending 2 days at the one of the BG resorts in Orlando as well or stay at one of the hotels on International Drive. I would really like to stay for 8 or 9 nights when we do go. Can I purchase extra points from BG or RCI to make up the difference? Thanks!

Maybe what I want to do is not an option or far from cost effective~~

We actually are not planning on going until feb 2016 or around there. Maybe it would be smarter to stay at one of the BG in Orlando? The biggest reason we wanted to stay on Disney was for the Shuttle service they have and extra magic hours.

Here is a points chart with the seasons and points you'd need for that exchange to happen in RCI.
                              https://bluegreenowner.com//MS/Resor...01_15_2010.pdf

Unfortunately 7K points doesn't look like it is going to get you that DVC unit without multiple years of points.
Looks like a 2 bedroom in red time is 18,000 BG points to trade in RCI.
February is peak red time because of President's week and snowbird time.

DVC usually, but not always deposits full weeks at a time.
They have lately been depositing 4 day exchanges, but at the very last minute.
Not sure if we will ever see nightly exchanges in RCI points thru RCI.
So far it hasn't been seen.

I hate to say it, but I think you'd be better off staying off site at one of the BG resorts and maybe
renting points from an owner for a few nights if you want to extend your trip and stay on site
                              Disney.

There are points brokers like dvcbyrequest.com that can accomplish that for you, or you can
rent points from an owner at places like mouseowners.com

                              Welcome to the forum.
