Cancelling and keeping points

As a silver owner, I understand that I can cancel a reservation (at least?) once per year and not lose my points.

Do I have to do anything special for that, or can I just go online and cancel?

I don't know that there are rules as to how you cancel (online vs. phone call), but to be safe, I would call, cancel and ask them for future reference. Not a great answer, but since I have never heard the question, that is the best answer I know of.

Yes, one free cancelation per year BUT if you call up and book another reservation using those points and a few more, I believe it does not count as a cancelation.

If you are just going to cancel, it is easier to do it online.
