  • Rescinded Retail Bluegreen Purchase, questions about resale

I know hardly anything about timeshares. I toured and purchased 6000 points for about 16k the other day from Big Cedar and just cancelled in time. I have found a guy who will sell me his 6000 annual points for $4000 dollars. Is this a good deal, great deal, etc. I'm in the dark and willing to learn. I appreciate your help. Thx

    Hello and to TS4Ms

I am happy to hear that you rescinded your purchase and are now doing research about TSs.
Since you purchased points at Big Cedar, I assume you live in the area and want to visit this resort. Big Cedar owners are VERY passionate about this resort.

When You purchase resale from a private individual, you only get bonus time at that resort so if your intent is to use your points primarily at BC, you should be deeded there.

That said, $4,000 for 6K points is still too high a price to pay.
Start looking at resale sites such as red week.com and myresortnetwork.com
Pinnacle Vacations is an authorized reseller of BG points and you can buy from them with or without charter benefits

Don't rush into anything. You realize that you like the idea of timeshare but the next time you buy, have more knowledge. In the mean while, you can rent from BG owners to see if TSing is really for you.

    Good Luck.

Read back in these forums to learn more about the Bluegreen system and how it works for you.

      Way too much, IMHO.

You can actually get points for free, however they won't have all the bells and whistles that you can get buying direct from Bluegreen. Pinnacle Vacations is an authorized reseller and can get you the extra stuff, if you want it. A lot of the extras are time sensitive -- last minute -- so if you prefer planning out as far as possible, not necessarily worth getting. Unauthorized points can be used like regular points, pretty much, and nearly all unauthorized points come with an RCI membership, which can be handy.

Seconding GrayFal's advice to do plenty of research and take your time. Big Cedar is the BG-owned resort that can be the biggest challenge to get reservations for during peak seasons. A lot of people who buy weeks there buy the week they want, and then reserve it before it gets thrown into the "common pool" eleven months out. You always have first choice of the week you own if you reserve it early enough; after eleven months, you've got the same odds of getting a Big Cedar reservation as any other Bluegreen owner. The "home resort advantage" is limited to the chance of an early reservation of the particular unit and week that you own.
