    Daytona Beach area resorts

    We are trying to choose between the new Seabreeze and Fantasy Island (not actually owned by BG) in Daytona Beach.

    Does anyone have any suggestions on either one? One is a bigger unit than the other one, so we are trying to decide which is nicer and better location and/or amentities.

    We are going soon for a long weekend.

    I haven't been to Fantasy Island, but Daytona Seabreeze was quite nice. No amenities really. Just Oceanfront.

    It's a hike from Daytona Beach. Need to drive through a residential area to get there.

      It sounds like I'm just raining on your parade, that you have already made up your mind that that is the area you want to own or vacation. That's fine.

      But, for years I have been pointing out that it is the least desirable Florida beach area, there and the Panhandle. It is always the most available and last to be picked:

      We have tried it many times, at several of the resorts in the Ormond to New Smyrna area and never found one that hadn't hired their staff at the Don Rickles School of Hospitality.

      Many have agreed with me. RCI even appears to, as they have added cautions to their exchange confirmations:

      Some of the timeshare resorts were developed in the early 1980's and are motel conversions which offer one-bedroom and studio accomodations. Although comfortable, the accomodations typically offer fewer amenities than larger units built specifically for timeshare vacationing.

      But if you like the area and intend on using your unit most every year, go for it.

        JLB, I think you may be misunderstanding the OP. This was in the BG area and I think maryk is actually looking to make a reservation through BG and trying to figure out which may be a better option for them.

          Even if I misunderstood, which I sometimes do, whether it's forever or for a week, it is still a less desirable Florida Beach area.

              Actually ROBO was right. You are misunderstanding me. I am using up some of my BG points before they expire, so I am limited to BG resorts.

              But I do know what you mean about the units not being up to normal Timeshare style. We stayed at Casa De Mar in Ormond Beach in June and it was not that great. It was old and a small balcony with cinderblock walls so you could not sit in a chair and see out of the balcony. But then again it is not a BG owned resort. The people were nice though.

              But this is also why I wonder about Fantasy Island, as it too is not BG owned. But Seabreeze it. I toured it in June and it looked good. A bit weird layout though. The bedroom has the view of the ocean, not the living room. Which causes the living room to be a bit dark, from what I could see spending 10 min in the unit. It has been completely refurbished though.

              As for Daytona itself, I am from the Atlanta area, so it is an easy weekend trip to Daytona. We actually liked the beach. Not much of a town though. But for a weekend, who cares. I just want sand and ocean.

              So if anyone could tell me about Fantasy Island that would be great....

                  No unfortunately, since we are going for bonus time, and it is just for the weekend (Labor Day), we need something within Driving distance from Atlanta. Miami is too far, as well as Key West.

                  My only two choices are what I have listed.

                  I think I will probaby go for a smaller unit and go with Seabreeze as it is newly and totally refurbished.

                  Unless anyone has any other comments as which one is better?

                    If you are going on bonus time, I definitely recommend Daytona Seabreeze. It has much higher point values.

                      Miami and the Keys are a far longer drive than the OP intended for a weekend. Some of these are also only full-week stays.

                      My brother is from the Augusta, GA area and wants to take his new toy, classic corvette convertible, to the drive-on beach. I got him a stay at the Outrigger as it was the only available with 2 bed.

                      to each his own!
