  • Availability weekends versus weeknights?

    I saw on another thread:

This brings up a question I have: Since BG charges so many more points for weekends than for weeknights, is weekend availability better than weeknight availability at most BG resorts? Or, is the Fountains an unusual case, in that people don't usually go to Orlando for just the weekend?

I know that with Disney Vacation Club, the points differential between weekends and weeknights is much smaller than with Bluegreen. For example, a studio that costs 11 points a night Sunday through Thursday might be 24 points on Friday and Saturday night. (The DVC also doesn't go for the standard timeshare practice of using high-denomination values for the cost of all of its units! It seems pure marketing that Fairfield makes a unit worth 28,000 points instead of 28 points, but I digress...)

Anyway, weeknights fill up way before weekends at the DVC, at least at the DVC Orlando resorts. So, given that BG has an even bigger difference between weeknights and weekends, I'd expect there to be an even bigger run on the weeknights, but maybe that isn't the case. Any thoughts on this?

I haven't done a scientific assessment, but my gut tells me that weekends are harder to get.

The Fountains is an outlier for Bluegreen. They built up so much inventory and they just opened a new building or two, so they have a ton of developer inventory available for bonus time and other rentals.

So, is bonus time available at The Fountains on weeknights, too? (But isn't worth renting because the points cost for those nights is so low, maybe?)

The Fountains is almost always available for bonus time. And, it's a great value because it has a relatively high point assignment. The availabilility is due primariliy to the fact that they just opened several new buildings and there is a ton of developer inventory available.

But, I'll bet that it always will be available given the oversupply of TS in Orlando.

Whenever The Fountains is fully booked, Orlando Sunshine is available. I have NEVER had trouble getting one or the other resort.

          Thanks for the info, Boca!

In less than peak times, both Orlando Sunshine Resort I and Orlando Sunshine Resort II are often available on Skyauction's super-cheap "Getaway weeks." That would be cheaper than getting them via bonus time, although they'd only be available in one-week increments with check-ins on limited days (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday -- not sure which of those days.) The Fountains doesn't show up in the really cheap weeks at Skyauction, at least not that I've noticed.
