  • Big Cedar Resort

We are heading for Branson for a family vacation and I am debating whether to stay at the Big Cedar Wilderness Club. I see that there is a daily $5 amenities charge to use the Big Cedar Lodge amenities. Is that $5 per person or per unit?

Finally, how are the 1 bedroom units in the lodge? Thanks. Tim

per unit. some people think it's just for the cookies; but they say it's for usage of BC (not BCWC) facilities, driving you around, telephones, canoes & paddleboats, etc. The 1 BR's are fine and have a view of the lake as compared to the cabins. We have stayed in the studios and they are a problem if you intend to do any serious cooking (as we do). No oven; 2 burner stove; small refrigerator w/tiny freezer. If you intend to eat out all the time, no problem.
    Have a great time. Ken

Thanks Ken. I just locked in two 1 bedroom units in a lodge. It would be great if these have a view of the lake. Can you tell from the unit number 2622A which lodge this is in? Does it matter what lodge you are in as far as the units, views, etc. Thanks. Tim

A funny comment from Jenny, since Tim and I have been talking back and forth about this vacation he is planning.

Between yesterday and today he gave up a unit already booked at Fairfield and got 2 units at BCWC, one as an exchange and one as an EV, for next to nothing.

When I told Jenny that, she asked, "Do these people come to Branson, or pick their resort, because of you?"

I hesitated, not wanting to become a target for whatever was coming next, (for some reason I get this feeling I am a target ) and then said, "Well, yeah."

Tim is being Vacation Planner for his family, including a wife reluctant to spend Thanksgiving week in hillbilly country, three pre-teenager-types, plus extended family in the second unit.

As one who is taking our extended family away from home for Christmas week for the first time in any of their lives--to Orange Lake, no less--one must understand that there never is any gratitude for the Vacation Planner. No one ever appreciates the concern, love and uncertainty that goes into trying to put just the perfect week together.

In my family I have become known as Gris, after the Chevy Chase's National Lampoon Vacation character, Clark Griswold (Sparky), who manages to fill two hours with one hilarious, hapless happening after another regardless of their vacation destination.

We know those movies so well that my nephews keep muttering the next line all the way through them.

When Tim and his family get here I plan on taking a motor home over to Big Cedar and playing Cousin Ernie.
        - - - - - -

Would I go to Branson Thanksgiving week if I did not live here? Why not? Branson is in the middle of Ozark Mountain Christmas and it is beautiful here. Then there is Thanksgiving buffet at Big Cedar.

If the choice was between The Embassy at Poipu or Branson, I'd be look for the lowest plane fare to Kauai'i!

As I've already told Tim by email, 2662 is in the furthest lodge building on the hill away from the lake, Kings River Lodge. Another one, further from the lake, will open Labor Day.

The amenities fee is $35 per unit. It is to use the amenities of the existing resort, which is called Big Cedar Lodge. Big Cedar Lodge is a huge complex and has been here for a long time

Also as I told Tim, we had the use of a Studio in the Phoenix Lodge Building, the first one, the one nearest the lake and next to the Preview Center, for a week during Christmas season, courtesy of a person on another timeshare message board. All we paid was the amenities fee.

        It was absolutely beautiful.

There was an NFL playoff game that week and we didn't have any problem cooking a roast and all the fixins, for us and my BIL and his wife. Then we went to the indoor pool/outdoor hot tub.

Then Jenny's Mom and her boyfriend stayed there one night.

A couple days we were out on the town and just decided to go to BCWC, check out a movie (free), get a burger and a beer at the Buzzard Bar, and go for a swim. Then we'd go home to sleep.

Thanks to all for the help in planning this vacation, especially JLB. Yes, JLB certainly did help convince me of the wonders of BCWC. However, others on this board certainly have talked the talk about this resort. Heck, just look at BocaBum's recent threads on his stay here. He now has moved this resort up to the top of his list as the best of the best. With that kind of praise, I gladly did the switch to get this resort and I am sure the wife and in-laws will appreciate it.

                Tim:

If comparing your decision to buying a house, your choice was whether you wanted a lesser house in a more desireable neighborhood or a lesser house in a less desireable neighborhood.

Sorry you didn't get a cabin, but life is full of little disappointments.

I get the feeling we're gonna meet in November.

JLB (aka Cousin Ernie), it will be great meeting you in November. Yes, I have become the Vacation Planner for the family. And, yes, sometimes it seems that I, too, like other Family Vacation Planners aren't appreciated for our efforts. Yet, I continue to read this board and TUG daily and learn from experienced folks like you. After showing my wife many of the reviews of BCWC and pictures, I think she is finally getting excited about this trip to Branson. Actually, the resort excites her, I am still working on the Branson part. One of these days I will email you for some help on which shows might be good to see and how to get some discounted family tickets. Thanks for all your help. Tim

JLB, can you tell us anything about the 2 bedroom Cabin number 2041 that supposely is on the cove. We have a November 2006 check in date for that unit.

We will as we have said before also have September 10, 2006 for a 2 bedroom at the Cabins at Green Mountain.

Maybe we can get together again during our 2006 trips.

Sure. It's loggy and it's cabiney. Of course, Cabins at Green Mountain are Cabiney also.

BCWC interiors are distinctive. They may resemble other interiors, but BC has it's own craftsmen and suppliers. There will be things with feathers and fins sitting around.

The appliance fronts are done in painted beadboard. There's a stained glass window in the LR. Stuff like that.

There's a BBQ grill on every deck as I recall.

Unfortunately, the BCWC cabins along the cove are not lakeview like the public cabins on the other side of the cove. Those sit higher up on the hill.

It's a beautiful place during Christmas season.
