I am currently (5 years now) and hopefully long time employeed in the timeshare industry. at a place where I have many other options of getting into timeshares without using my bluegreen points. I have thought about doing the rental thing and could probably do well. but reading the posts on this board I have to ask. Can someone else use my points? If so can I sell them? I have only 10,000 points. but that is enough for a really nice 1 bed vacation every year. Rent or can I sell? If I book a place nice enough can I just rent it to a friend or family without listing it with bluegreen. (just want enough for MF). Another option I have often thought about can I book a week and just give it away? Or do I need a guest cert? I also have a few weeks at not so good ebay purchases that I am thinking about donating. Quite frankly I have more than enough because I love Orlandoand we all know its easy to exchange to and I would travel there every year. I do have to say now that the kids are grown a week on the beach would be nice but not necessary (SCARED OF SHARKS). what are my options? Sell it or do the rental thing?.. FYI I bought the 3 year sampler in 1993 and purchased in 1996 with a deeded week at gulfstream I upgraded as soon as Solara opened and never visited either. Can I take my deed a be a owner at Solara? or am I commited to BG forever? I do love BG the Fountains are great and LOVE LOVE LOVE Orlando Sunshine Resort....

I will try to answer some of your questions
Originally posted by btcctomtbI am currently (5 years now) and hopefully long time employeed in the timeshare industry. at a place where I have many other options of getting into timeshares without using my bluegreen points.
You are working in the timeshare industry but I assume from your questions that you are not employeed by Bluegreen?
I have thought about doing the rental thing and could probably do well. but reading the posts on this board I have to ask. Can someone else use my points?
Someone can use a reservation made with your points but you would have to make the reservation in their name when you make the initial reservation or else you may be subject to a fee to change a points reservation.
If so can I sell them?
Yes, you can sell your points, you can check ebay to see what the going rate is for BG points. You might even post here exactly what you are selling and you may find a buyer, I bought 12,000 from a post here this past summer.

You don't have to rent through BG, in fact I have never heard anyone report that they had success renting through BG. You might want to list at the usual sites like Redweek etc. I have had good success there.
Another option I have often thought about can I book a week and just give it away? Or do I need a guest cert?
I have never heard it called a guest certificate at BG, if someone else is going to use your reservation, regardless if you rented or gave it to them, BG wants to know who is checking in so the reservation has to be in their name unless you are going to be there an check in for them personally. The resort will want to see an ID that matches the reservation and of course run a credit card.
I also have a few weeks at not so good ebay purchases that I am thinking about donating. Quite frankly I have more than enough because I love Orlandoand we all know its easy to exchange to and I would travel there every year. No experience donating timeshares but there is a lot of information about it on TUG. My understanding is charities may not want your donation unless they think they can make some money selling it. Some timeshares just aren't worth the yearly maintenance fees. If you can rent and more than cover your yearly maintenance fees and advertising fees, and don't mind the hassles, go for it. If you think you can sell them put them on Redweek or ebay and see what happens.

I doubt you can pull your underlying deed back from the BG Trust and end up with a "fixed week", but I sure don't know the answer to that. Other more experienced people here would probably know. Boca????

Thank you Tom and Boca you guys are the reason for me joining the board. I dont want to sell outright because I will eventually use the club more than what I do now. I havent decided what to do just yet. Keep watching for want to rent ads and hoping I can help someone get what they want. In your experiences what rents best on redweek, TUG or Here? And Tom thanks for the answers exactly the answers I was looking for. Have either of you been to the Carolina Grande yet? and did I read somewhere that there may be a BG resort in Vegas soon?
