Branson in March

My wife and I will be staying at The Falls Village at the end of March. Should we expect many shows to be open?
What are some side trips that are worth taking, after we get "showed out"?
Any reccomendations on resturants?

March is the month that the dafodils, forsythia, JLB and Branson Spring (ouch) back to life each year.

I used to have a showfinder where you could enter a date and see what shows are open, but that site seems to have bit the dust.

If I had to pick an official date that Branson re-opens, like November 1 is the official date that Ozark Mountain Christmas starts, I would say Family Spring Break at Silver Dollar City, and that is mid-March.

What kind of dining do you like? If I listed what we like you might believe there is no fine dining in Branson. Of course, there is no fine dining in Branson!

Things to do other than shows include golf, a visit to the J & J Margaritaville Dock for a complimentary boat tour (weather permitting), Branson Landing, Downtown Branson, Shephered of the Hills trout hatchery, a dam tour, Eureka Springs, Springfield for Bass Pro, Lamberts, civilization, etc., and just driving in the Ozark hills, gawking at the hillfolk.

As far as dining we'll pretty much eat anything that's put in front of us, but we do look for Italian any time we're out!

Just got back from Falls Village and Branson last weekend. Some of the entertainers made mention of their next year's show schedule. For instance, Clay Cooper will be opening his new show in what is now The Majestic Theater on March 9th. I think you'll find several open at the time you're planning, though not all of them. We found good food at Denny's on the strip (I know it's a chain, but the food is good and it's not expensive.), Plaza View in the Grand Plaza Hotel, Garfield's on the Landing, and Red Lobster. I wouldn't say there's no fine dining establishments since Big Cedar and Chateau on the Lake arrived, but I haven't eaten at either. There's also an Olive Garden and several others. I hear raves about Dana's Barbeque, but haven't eaten there my self. I also like Mickey Gilley's Restaurant, next to his theater. There's a Titanic museum to do when you're showed-out (how does that ever happen?) and a winery that seems to attract lots of tourists for tours. Never been there either. Anyway, enjoy Branson. I go 2 or 3 times every year and never come home disappointed.

Gosh, where was my head since just this morning I answered a question about Big Cedar restaurants, The Devils Pool.

Actually I have been deferring on Big Cedar since they stopped the buffet lunch.

And the Chatueau, of course.

And the Candlestick Inn.

Demitris, on Taneycomo downtown, has been moved to Bass Pro and is being redone for them.

I recently answered another Italian (pizza) question by saying there are not any special pizza places in Branson, but I could be wrong about that, too.

If I had to recommend Italian, based on never hearing anything bad about them, I would go with Mr. G's downtown, Tony Z's near the Welk resort, maybe The Pasta House on Green Mountain behind the Grand Palace, or, of course, Olive Garden.

As far as BBQ, you can't go wrong with Danna's, Famous Dave's in Branson Landing, or the Rib Crib. Shorty Smalls is marginal, but some have said they like it. We ate at Dannas on Gretna (they have one in Branson West, too) last month, with Rapmarks. jenny and I split a combo plate which was excellent, and huge. It fed us and quite a lot went home for a late-night snack for them, to celebrate the totalling of their car earlier in the day.

Which reminds me, friends of ours have an excellent tea room for lunch, Rubylenas, on 76 on the hill on the way downtown. The food and desserts are great. I won't say anything more.

There are several little restaurants downtown that are known for their home cooking.

The Red Lobster is iffy and they recently had to comp us a meal.

The Golden Corral is especially good for what it is.

The Cracker Barrel is the same as all Cracker Barrels.

Some neighbors, friends, do the freezer and cooler repairs for area restaurants, so I could give you the back-room critique of some also.

We have had Sadie's Sideboard at some of the resort preview dinners, and their catered food has been excellent.

There are a lot of touristy, buffet restaurants.

For a truly unique experience, try Lamberts, about 30 min north at the CC exit on HWY 65. Dont go at peak meal time unless you have time to wait.

I looked at this site and noticed that they sell
"Tickets" for less than the Box Office - The
only difference is they use "Printed Vouchers"

Has anyone purchased show vouchers from:

Here is another place you can search shows by date. Unfortunately neither of these sites have much loaded for 2007. Neither does Silver Dollar City's.

Things are done at Ozarks pace around here, and there's no hurry to be concerned about next year when this years isn't over yet.

I don't like either of these showfinders as much as a liked the one that is no longer available, pickapackage. Someone needs to copy what they used to do.

i've used both online voucher sites and Branson 2 for 1 tickets. Never had any problems with either. I've even purchasd from both before I went to Branson and then called the shows when I had my vouchers and told them what I had and asked for seat assignments. In all cases I got them.
