  • Smoking at BlueGreen Resorts

I've been researching and looking to purchase a timeshare particulary in the Florida Keys. I know Bluegreen has a place in Marathon, Florida however in doing research on their website I noticed they allow smoking in all of their villa's. Is this so? If it is so, has any non-smokers stayed or owned at these resorts? Can anyone provide any feedback as if this would be a problem. No offense to any smoker but it's really a huge turnoff when someone smokes up a room ionizer or not. Outside or a bar........who cares but in a room?? Just my opinion, no offense to anyone please.....Chuck

P.S. Can anyone explain to me what a lock off unit is and how you could split it into two weeks. I've seen this but I am still in timshare 101 school. Thanks guys...!

    Chuck,
Both my wife and I are avid non-smokers. We have stayed in many different units at quite a few different BG resorts. We have never been bothered by residual smoke. However, we were staying in the two bedroom side of a three bedroom lock off, and the people in the one bedroom side were smoking up a storm and it came in to our side quite heavily around the lock off door. We stuffed towels and blankets in the cracks to keep out the smoke.

By now, you might have figured out what a lock off is. It is a large unit that can be broken down into smaller units. The instance I was referring to consists of a unit with two bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, and living room and a unit with one bedroom, one bath, kitchen area, and living room. The two units are separated by a door with two deadbolts. One deadbolt can only be locked from one side and the other deadbolt is locked from the other side. There are lock offs in which one side has one bedroom and the other side has one bedroom. There are lockoffs in which one side is a one or two bedroom and the other side is a studio (some of which can't be given to RCI). There are some lockoffs which do not have a common door but each side has a locked door into a common area which has a locked door to the outside.

Let's take the three bedroom lockoff I first mentioned. Some people use both sides for one week (big family). Some use the two bedroom side one week and the one bedroom side another week, and vice versa. Some use one side and give the other side to RCI. In the Bluegreen Vacation Club it doesn't matter because you have points which you use any way you like.

In the first case I mentioned, the two bedroom side has a washer-dryer and a gas fireplace while the one bedroom has neither.

Feel free to ask more questions.

    Charles

cbauer, we were at Mountain Loft last weekend and even though they do allow smoking there are signs for a voluntary non-smoking unit. I did notice a fellow across from us outside in his pj's smoking up a storm in the cold and snow! So, at least he was abiding by the requests.

I have only stayed at two Bluegreen resorts, but I have probably stayed at CMV on 15 different occasions, in fact going up this weekend. I have yet to be bothered by the smell of smoke, and I would know as DW and I are both non-smokers.

CMV requests that you not smoke in the units but do not prohibit it. They also offer to set up an ionizer to remove smoke oders if you check into a unit that was recently smoked in.

We are non-smokers and have stayed two Bluegreen resorts and were not bothered by the smell of smoke. My sister joked that smoking optional might be a better choice than non-smoking because some people she knows would smoke in the room just defy the non-smoking ban. (People with a "I paid good money for this time share, and you are not going to tell me what to do" attitude. )
Thanks to my sister, we own a leg lamp.

Fortunately, I see fewer smokers with that attitude. What I see is that they are becoming more considerate. Or maybe the diehards are dying off to cancer. Also, I am becoming more understanding. I understand that nicotine is more addictive than heroin and other such substances so it is quite hard to quit.

Also, what is a "leg lamp"?

Thank you. The link worked. So a leg lamp is indeed a "leg" lamp.

Do you think that if greenwagonmom's sister were in charge of a party, she would give the guest of honor a toilet seat sawed in half.
