We just came back from a few days at Big Cedar. Since we had purchased a Bluegreen Sampler Package last year, we went in for an owner update. We actually like our sales person and told him right away that we had purchased resale. He wanted to make sure that we were aware of the new rules for purchasing resale and had someone come and explain the rules change. Since had purchased before the February 21, we are OK. This person told us that future non-Bluegreen resale purchases would not only loose the preferred benefits and bonus time, but would also loose the ability to trade in the Bluegreen point system. Does anyone have any more information on this? Thanks!

Future Bluegreen resale purchases

This is completely false.
If you have any accounts that are considered "Bluegreen purchased," then they will always remain Bluegreen purchased until you sell them. You will receive VIP Bonus time after your FIRST Bluegreen purchased deed. Since you are grandfathered in, that will count as your First Bluegreen purchased deed.
If you buy another resale unit later, the only thing that will happen is that it won't count toward preferred member benefits. You need to upgrade it. If you ever want to do that, let me know. I'll show you how to do it for the most cost effective way possible given your circumstance. There are many ways to upgrade deeds and the best approach for you varies based on your particular situation.

Lost value - Bluegreen
Ouch, I am glad I am not a Bluegreen owner!
I was researching Bluegreen experience base while considering purchasing a Bluegreen resale and came across this thread.
It's now obvious to me that I am no longer interested to pursue a resale purchase of Bluegreen. I suppose Bluegreen die-hards are just that. But as far as considering purchasing into Bluegreen as a newbie, forget it. I am not doing it.
It seems that Bluegreen sees resales as a threat, and is trying to reduce their value in the marketplace. Shortsighted?
So if I ever need or want to sell, these type of tactics clearly demonstrate that Bluegreen is not in it for the owners, but in it for themselves.
I will stay away from Bluegreen.
Thanks to all for enlightening me.

Frank,
Would you happen to have Timeshare Relief on your business card? You sure sound like it and your posting style is very familiar. We are always suspicious of people who come out with a first post like you did.
You can purchase Bluegreen Points on the resale market and sell them for what you bought them for. You will get all of the standard benefits of ownership no matter who you buy them from. That includes booking reservations at all Bluegreen resorts on a first come, first served basis. And, it includes exchanging with RCI and other exchange companies. I helped someone just this week do exactly that. She got a great deal from someone at myresortnetwork.com and she is thrilled with her purchase. Now that she has contacts for how to use her points, she is going to find that it is the single best value for family vacations of all alternatives on the market today including renting.
If a person wants to take advantage of additional benefits only provided by the developer, then they can choose to do so. They do pay a premium and those benefits won't transfer.
If you choose not to buy Bluegreen, that's your prerogative. Others around here have had a wonderful experience with the club and they are expanding their ownerships, not reducing them.

Let's not get the salesperson mumbo-jumbo mixed up with BG the company. Salespeople lie. That is life. Salespeople also move from timeshare system to timeshare system.
BG itself hasn't done anything to harm the owners and is in fact trying to preserve benefits for those that bought thru them. Adding on resale points does not cancel my thru-bluegreen purchase or bennies.
They are above board about what the rule is and what you need to do to get around it. Salespeople, however, are not honest.

Thank you for your help! I suspected that the no points in the system was just a bluff to scare us into buying directly from Bluegreen. The fellow looked a bit embarrassed when he said it. I told them that I knew about the changes, but kept mum on the points stuff. I wanted to know for sure, since I have encouraged some of my friends to look into the resale market. I will contact BocaBum when we are ready to upgrade. Thanks to my sister, we own a leg lamp.

This is not really a problem for 2 reasons. First, you don't need these benefits to effectively use your points. It's an extra benefit that many owners like, but they are not required. Second, you can still get the benefits at resale prices. You just need to pay a little more than before Feb 21.
For your specific situation, it depends on how your transfer was performed. If it was done by a "flipper", then you need to check to see if your seller submitted your transfer paperwork and transfer check on or before Feb 21. If they didn't, you will probably have an issue getting the benefits.
Why is this? Because timeshare flippers don't actually own the timeshares they are selling you. They have a seller who has agreed to sell for a certain price to the seller. Then, they sell it on eBay. When they have a buyer, they transfer the property into their name and then into your name. If they didn't start the SECOND transfer into your name before Feb 21, then you are probably out of luck. I would call Resort Title Agency to find out when your escrow was opened. Since it started so long ago. There is a good chance that it did happen on time.
By the way, this is why some eBay resellers have 5 or 6 months closings and high transfer fees. They are essentially doing a double closing.

This rule has been in place for over 5 years. Bluegreen just decided to start enforcing it.
Thanks...I new the rule but didn't realize they had started enforcing it.
According to Resort Title, I should be ok because my transfer fee was processed prior to Feb. 21. I don't know if I will ever use Bonus Time but it's nice to know that it is available if I do choose to use it.

Yes, they can be upgraded. But, the absolute minimum upgrade fee is about $2500 and that is if you know what you are doing. It's usually a lot more.

Can you explain how to get the benefits at resale prices? Thanks. Wow...I am learning the TS world can be complicated.
