  • Big Cedar Wilderness Club Stories

Bluegreen and Johnny Morris own the Big Cedar Wilderness Club on a 51% BG / 49% JM split. We have been told that Morris provided the land, access to Big Cedar Lodge, and craftsmen to make the decorations. BG built the lodges and cabins. In talking to a Big Cedar Lodge Manager he told me that Bluegreen completely runs the Wilderness Club and the Lodge doesn't really have that much to do with other than providing activities.

Over the past couple of years, we have heard two unconfirmed rumors:

When we were at Big Cedar, I had a BCWC salesman tell me that Johnny Morris actually swings a bigger stick because he has the option to buy a controlling interest from Bluegreen in the Wilderness Club. Has anyone else ever heard this?

We also heard from another source that Big Cedar Lodge is considering moving the Stables over by the Devils Pool Cabins to make way for a whole new set of timeshares. According to this person, Johnny Morris and Bluegreen were out driving stakes in the ground on the hill where the stables are. When I asked another BCWC salesperson about this, she looked at me with an startled expression and then said that nothing had been signed yet. Has anyone else heard this story?

Like I said, this may just be a couple of different stories. Over the years I have heard that BCWC was going to build a water feature (waterfall) through the timeshare area, then they were going to put in a new minature golf course, and last year it was, we're going to install a new pool or water park by the Mill Creek Lodge this winter. I will be surprised if they have actually broken ground on anything other than timeshare units.

Nothing sounds out-of-line in that story. I don't think it even qualifies as a story.

JM is a hands-on person and one who would not relinquish control, ar threat of control, over a property like BC.

When Bass Pro opened at Branson Landing, the day before JM was right in there carrying stuff in and stocking shelves, just like the hired hands.

The Devil's Pool cabins area would not be suitable for the stables, but I can see them being moved somewhere to make room for more timeshares. I'm sure JM has a few thousand acres nearby that would work.
