  • Just did 'preso' today

    Hi,

Just did a presentation at a local resort - Hershey, PA. Had a nice time. It was my first presentation since August 2005. The resort was pretty skimpy, but there isn't much 'good' space in Hershey.

Anyhow, I was lured in with a $150 visa gift card, which I gladly took. I'm getting married next month and am fixing to find a timeshare program to get into. I went in telling them that I was going to purchase off the resale market and I was just evaluating the resort. Of course, they didn't like that, but I thought it would make them know my stance and that I should get my gift card. I honestly wouldn't have done it, but the girl at Bass Pro Shops was super pushy and I was going to be in Hershey that day anyhow.

So, they had this big counter to the resale market. I'll list the main points below.

    1) No VIP program, WorldHotel usage, grand yacht club, extended 'add on stays', etc. I see this is posted elsewhere and is well known.

    2) The one that confused me. They said that they would not combine accounts.

    Example
    1) I purchase 10K points from them this year with $400 maint. fees.
    2) Next year I want 20K total, so I purchase another 10K from them. They buy back my original and deed me a new one for 20K pts with $600 in maint fees, saving me $200 in Maint. Fees (MF)

They said if I purchase them resale, I would not be able to combine accounts and my MF would be $800 (400 for each 10K property)

In addition, I would have to pay 122 for each account purchased off the resale market. If I purchased a new property every 3 years as my family expands, my annual membership fee would be nearly $500!

He said they were attempting to put a dent in the resale market. Honestly, I started considering the 895 starter package, but I didn't go for it as I couldn't use it in the summer when my fiance has off from teaching.

Non combining of accounts in the future is a real possibility. I expect that this will happen. Maybe in one or two years. For now, accounts combine as always.

Good god that was a fast response. The salesperson told me it was like that as of now. He also threw in that it isn't worth buying resale to save a few bucks up front now that this is in place as you will end up paying more year after year.

They have been saying that for years. It's not true. But like I said, it probably will be true within a year or two. And then, when that happens, there will be a way to fix it.

Darn, you quoted me before I could edit my typo. Thanks for the info. I just wanted to share my thoughts on my preso.

Also, my Aug 2005 trip to Shenandoah, VA was a nice time. But the bluegreen lodge for the sales presentations was worse than a super 8 hotel. I was so irate with that place that I nearly told off the sales people. It smelled, it had hollow walls, and the facilities were rubbish.

            Let's see...$200/yr * 10 years = $2,000. 20k Developer points @ +/-$30,000.
This Salesperson must love you to want to save you so much money!!!

If this is the annual membership dues, I'm not sure they can make that one fly.

I would rather have a choice whether to have the RCI membership or not.

Saying in my Golem voice from Lord of the Rings.

"Nasty little salespersons, THEY LIES TO US!"

Ok, that was super geeky, but you get the point.
