Just got back from Myrtle Beach Harbor Lights, after going to the presentation. I'll be honest I was expecting to go and say NO. I have been interested in going to a traveler's agency or something to pay for vacations and this presentation interested me. I never done any research on this type of thing though and had a gut feeling I was making a bad decision without doing so before making a commitment like this. What got me was the pitch about how the bonuses were a one time deal for that day only, along with a low monthly payment. I told them the down payment was a problem and they approved me for 0% 6month financing on that so it started sounding good. I was offered 7000 points EOY for about $8500 all together, VIP unlimited bonus time(which was one factor that got me), at a low monthly payment of $127, Traveler's Plus, RCI 2x3, and a few waived first year fees. Sounded real good, something I could pay a little over $100 a month for and be able to take my family on nice vacations.
Now when I got home today, I did my research which I would normally do before a transaction of this kind. I finally got to read my paperwork, which was done suspiciously fast. I read a few things on the internet, including the complaints, and resale prices. Now I'm really confused and wish I had the chance to actually do this before I made the commitment. I do see that I have 5 days to cancel the contract, but before I do that I would like to get the advice of people who actually know more than I do about this stuff.
First off, I feel that after seeing prices of resellers and reading that authorized dealers could actually give you the VIP bonus times and stuff, that would have been the best route. So would 7000 EOY points with those unlimited bonuses actually add up in the long run for what I'm paying compared to what I've seen on some sites such as pinnacle or the high points with no bonuses such as ebay? From what I've seen 7000 points doesn't go far but with unlimited bonus times that could go a little ways, I don't know you tell me $7670 financed at 15.9%, $1100 down financed at 0% for 6 months? I would end up paying $16,500 in 10 years plus maintenance fees and so forth, shooooey! Compared to 10,000 points for $3300 on ebay. I also feel that I could have gone through my own bank or another loan provider for a lot lower interest rate, and went with a reseller for half the price to give me something that would work for me close to that monthly payment. I don't know, it's all confusing me now.
I would go on with questions, but since I'm new and this post is already long and rambled on in confusion, I'll wait for some advice on that important issue first. Thanks for the help in advance.
