  • Hammocks in Marathon

Anyone stay at the Hammocks lately. The reviews on this site are a few years old. I am planning a trip in March to the Hammocks and just wondering if the wife and two kids(6 & 4) will enjoy this place. Also we will be flying into Fort lauderdale and renting a car, how's the drive? Thanks!

    Hammocks in Marathon, FL

    djkrolow,
We do a week @ the Hammocks every January.
The reviews whether outdated or current describes both the Hammocks and Marathon perfectly.
I have not seen many children on site and the ones that were there were primarily @ the pool.
The Hammocks doesn't really have anything geared for kids.

The Marathon airport was closed when we were there this past January so we flew into the Key West airport and drove the 48 miles (about an hr) to Marathon.
The Fort Lauderdale airport is 141.5 miles from Marathon which takes approximately 2.5 hrs to drive.
We felt flying into Key West VS any other airport saved us boo-coo arrival and departure driving time.
When I'd priced it, all flight destinations came out very close in price so we elected for a shorter drive.

We've driven from Orlando to Key West and from Fort Lauderdale to Key West as well.
The drive was interesting to a degree but was not anything to "write home about."
    Hope this helps.

I was there late last year with my two youngest sons. They played mostly in the pool. We went down to Islamorada to see my wife and son who were staying at a Boy's Scout camp. Wonderful place, but not a lot to do for kids.
