  • intro and question

    Hello to everyone.
My name is Karen and I am a newbie. My DH and I signed a BG developer contract in Tenn. last week ( of course we had no intention of doing this), and have had sleepless nights ever since. Fortunately I found this forum and was up until 2:00 this morning absorbing as much info as I could. Thank you, thank you!! Bluegreen sounds like it has a lot going for it, and I will definitely consider a resale purchase soon...after I have done more due diligence. But with the knowledge that I have gained here, I know that the developer purchase was definitely not the route for my family, and we paid waaaayyyy too much.
Now for my questions.... regarding rescinding , several people have written "make sure you follow instructions to the letter." It seems pretty straight-forward to me. Put in writing, within 10 days, intent to cancel contract. I will send certified, return receipt. Is there anything I'm missing here? Does BG try to find loopholes to prevent cancellation of contracts? Also, I put the entire purchase on a credit card (need those flier points!) Should I dispute the cc charge until it is either cancelled or BG reimburses me? Am I going to have to forfeit the "closing costs" and taxes? How quickly should I expect reimbursement?
    Thank you for any information.

I am not familiar with BG, but there are a few people here who are and will probably be able to answer specific to BG.
I would call my credit card company and let them know you are cancelling. I rescinded on an offer last year and did not lose any money at all. I know we used a credit card, but I don't remember we did.
But, if the contract for rescinding states to copy paperwork on a 11x14 sheet of paper..make sure you do it.

Just make sure you follow the instructions to rescind exactly. Even if it says you can fax or e-mail, make sure to also send a certified return receipt letter, postmarked within the rescission timeframe. You should get a full refund of your deposit and should not incur any costs.

Then, read posts here and on Tug, research what is best for you and buy on the resale market. Think about what you are going to do with all the money you just saved ...most people discover these forums after they have made one or more developer purchases, so you're ahead of the game. Congrats and welcome!!

Make sure you send back anything they gave you (Tote Bag, Books, Starter Info, etc.). We sent back our materials and letter all in one package directly to BG (not the resort we purchased at). I'm not sure it matters where you send the materials as long as you send it with return receipt.

We got a call from the sales department where we purchased asking about the tote bag & books. We told them that we sent direct to BG and there were no problems. Our credit card was credited and I think it was about 30 days total from the date of their receipt of the letter.

If you don't send back the materials they will deduct an amount from your credit (+/- $50 - $70).

        Good Luck!
