  • Is this how they do owner update calls now?

I am sitting home on a Friday evening, DW scrapbooking, so me and the 'dogter' Steffi having some daddy and doggy bonding time and then the phone rings. It is the folks at Christmas Mountain Village. We are checking in on Wed, before Thanksgiving. They are calling to schedule the owners update. I have now scheduled the owners update a week from today, which is 5 days before we even check in.

Is this the way is goes now, scheduling before we even arrive, or is it because it is a holiday and we are there for only a few days?

    Don,
We are also checking in to Christmas Mtn on Wednesday and we also got a call for an owner update.
We have gotten calls before going to Boyne Mtn as well. As I recall, the only times it has happened has been when we stayed 3-4 days.

Perhaps, we can meet while we are there. I will be the one with four daughters in tow.

They don't always call ahead. But, they do quite frequently. Those people making the calls get paid for everyone who shows up to an owner update. So, they make calls when they aren't busy at the resort.

We will be the couple without any kids

We maybe able to meet at Mulligan's for a beer. After driving the DW around for local flavor scrapbook supplies, I may need a beer.

You may need several beers after a day of buying scrapbooking supplies.

We have an update scheduled 8:30 am on Friday.

David, we are there for our update at Noon on Friday. Last year, we got a Mullegan's gift card, so we went there and chilled for a while with some munchies and beverages. Nummy.

Diamond Resorts, now the owners of Sunterra, have always called about a week before our scheduled arrival. Hilton has called us both times we've stayed at our home resort. The Marriott in Vegas, which has some sort of partnership with DRI (Grand Chateau was initially DRI's) also calls before we arrive. The two resorts we own in Branson that are managed by Spinnaker have never called. Our Marriott in Palm Beach Shores also has never called that I remember prior to arrival.

One way or another we've always been approached for an owners update. Either prior to our arrival, when we arrive at the resort at check in, by phone once we arrive or by written invitation in our unit. The invitations that stick out in my mind are when they call ahead of time. I've never really minded it and, if we are interested, it's easier to plan into our vacation ahead of time rather than after we arrive. Plus, for me it's easier to get information about gifiting on the phone rather than standing at a desk during check in with other people behind me waiting to get their parking passes.

In the past, we have always had the call after we have checked in, and usually after we have had enough time to get to the grocery store and pick up our supplies for the week. It is no biggie, one way or another, just kind of surprise to get that call. Wished they had called to tell us we had been upgraded. Not sure what we would upgrade to, but it would have been nice.

I far prefer the pre-call to the 9 am call while at the resort!!! CMV was THE WORST - every morning they were calling us! I don't understand why they couldn't take NO for an answer but unplugging the phone seemed to work, after which they only showed up at our door once.

Sometimes I am hit up for the owner update at check-in only and if I say no, there are no follow-up calls - I like this model the best!!

Not sure who, what or where CMV is but it's also the initials of a virus. Sound appropriate in this case.

CMV has been calling ahead for quite awhile. They generally offer about $50 in various gifts. We always say No. When we check in and stop at the "concierge" desk for our envelope of activities, offers, area booklet, etc., they ask about an owner update and will generally offer $100. If you say No to that offer, that generally ends it. I haven't been called at the unit for an update in the last 3 times we have been at CMV. (Maybe we have just been lucky.) Before that, they were indeed annoying with morning calls.

Honestly, it has been a few years since we've been there (CMV) so perhaps they have ceased this annoying activity.

On our first exchange to the NC mountains, we were hounded by RCI! We learned to unplug the phone pretty early in our 'timesharing career'.
