  • CMV Owner Update Disappointment

The DW and I were at the owners update at Christmas Mountain Village after Thanksgiving. We walked out of there disappointed. We did not get a good owner update, even though there has been a lot of changes with Bluegreen in the last few months.

The sales guy was about as green as can be; won’t get into what he told us for the reason for him being there only four weeks. We sat down and he noticed my notebook. I told him it was my questions about the changes. I asked about Shell Vacation Club and he brought up the traveler plus program and that we needed to be in the program. He then opened his folder to show that we were at a point level. I asked him what he had for our last purchase date, it was 2003. We have purchased twice since then and our points were over double what he listed, and were already in the traveler plus program, he did not know that. He then left the table and was gone for about 15 minutes while he pulled up our complete history records. When he came back, he implied that he had nothing left to use in the sales, and his boss had told him to just answer our questions.

As the DW says, we are Gold members: Why didn’t we get someone that had some background with the company and knew what was going on? If they called a week in advance to schedule the ‘update’ why didn’t they take the time to pull all the records? Why did they put us in the room with the pumped in noise for high pressure sales? I hate those noisy rooms. My hearing is bad and I can’t hear with the ambient noise. I know they want the people to lean into the conversation, but I hate that.

We were told that the SVC transfer is $49 for members, $29 for Silver members and $19 for Gold members. He gave us a phone number for the SVC transfer, but I don’t know if it was a BG number or an SVC number. That evening, I called an SVC resort that we REALLY want to visit, the guy at reservation desk had never heard of Bluegreen. At the CMV front desk, there was a sign welcoming SVC members. How can BG be set up for SVC and the SVC resorts not know about BG?

The sales guy told us there is a new resort in New Orleans. I don’t know the name of it, or the points required, or the date in service or anything. We heard about Williamsburg, but again, no information.

As the DW and I thought about our update, days later, it gets us kind of upset. She feels that we should add more detail and send this information on to BG Corporate.

I am looking for suggestions. I don’t feel this guy did any service to us as owners, and didn’t do any service to BG to make the owners aware of the situation so we would be more confident in BG. Who at BG should be notified?

    Check-In Knowledge

The people at the check-in desk just check you in. Your reservation might have come from SVC, BG, RCI, II, or other exchange companies or individuals. While it would be nice if the check-in people knew about how you got there, my main concern is do they know about the resort and area once I am there. I would not fault the check-in people for not knowing about corporate partnerships. I am sure they are paid accordingly.

I will give BG credit. They read my rantings (hey, DW and I were not happy with the update and someone had to know about it). They asked for my info so they could contact me. I hope they follow through.

I really want to know about some of the new BG oppertunities.

We had a similar experience with our update at CMV. We sat down for our update and the salesman sat down with our account, saw the number of points we own and said "I can see you know how to use the program, what can I do for you". I asked him about the SVC and Odyssey Dells and other new properties but he really offered no new information. He didn't give point levels for Odyssey or details of the building process. He didn't even give us the information about SVC that they gave you Don about Gold exchange being only $19.
However, he had bad information that we last upgraded in 2005. He tried to sell the benefits of the SVC and why we should upgrade to get Traveler's Plus benefits. I told him we upgraded through Pinnacle in June 2007 and we had Traveler's Plus and SVC. He said ok and a few minutes later went to get his manager. His manager came back with his proposal for us to purchase 20k more points with the first 5k at $1.40 and the next 15k at $.90/pt and then we could get access to SVC. I again told the manager that we already have Traveler's plus and that we upgraded in June 2007. He looked through the our account and said well it doesn't show that upgrade here. I told them I had called owner services twice to make sure I had Travelers Plus, SVC, and Yacht Club membership and owner services confirmed it twice. He was still skeptical and then tried to sell us 3k points. The first salesman had told us 10 minutes earlier the minimum they would sell is 5k points. When the manager mentioned the 3k point minimum, the first salesman shifted in his seat and looked uncomfortable. We didn't say anything but it was extremely unprofessional.

I will say this much. When we do updates, I am fairly quiet and positive about Bluegreen. I don't bring up resales and how I obtained my points because I really don't feel like arguing and being confrontational. We really want to find out new information about new resorts, SVC and any new benefits. We really got none of it.

Having said all this, we got out of there in less than an hour, took our $90 and
bought a bunch of junk we didn't need.... I love the USA!!

          I think I got scammed

It appears that may have been a scam. I now do not believe the person was from BG, just someone out to get my personal information...and I gave it to him. The guy has never answered the email, or the PM I have sent to him.

So now besides feeling very stupid that I fell for this possible scam, I now have to worry about my personal information being used.

          Suggestions?

            All is good-no scam

Okay, I got email back from the person, Mark. It was not a scam, he was actually from BG. I am sorry I said he scammed me. He forwarded my comments on to another person, Barbara, who was very helpful.

Barbara did confirm the $19 for Gold, $29 for Silver, and $49 prices for the SVC booking. She reminded me that to be able to use SVC or Select Connections, you need to have purchased points after July ’06 and have Traveler Plus. Personally, I recommend Traveler Plus, it has saved us money on airfare and car rental. We have saved more by using the program than the cost of the program. In talking with Barbara, she also found out that BG didn’t have my account set up right, so the Select Connections were not visible to me. She is getting that corrected. A BIG thank you for that. I didn’t even know it wasn’t right.

Platinum and Bronze levels are not fully defined yet, so anything you hear now is just rumor. That is kind of true for New Orleans too, planned or in the works, but not confirmed yet.

So, even though there were issues, they are resolved. I think that BG handled them very well. I am a happy Bluegreen owner again.

Seeing Bluegreen has access to our records they know that we have bought everything resale so IMHO they will try to get us and others like done asap.

A couple have attemped to sell us but then get as gifted quickly so they can start another owner update with someone they maybe able to sell.

They ask why we are there and we tell them the gifts and to learn if something new is going to added to the programs.
