  • Policy change regarding borrowing points

Bluegreen has eliminated the requirement of pre-paying your next maintenance fee bill in order to borrow your points. This has been a real issue for many owners and Bluegreen fixed it. Bluegreen now has a policy that is consistent with all other point systems which allow their members to borrow points without pre-payment. This eliminates the double whammy that owners have experienced in gaining access to their points and should alleviate the saved points issue facing many owners as well.

Owners in good standing (i.e. uptodate on all payments and loans) can borrow points up to one year in advance of their anniversary date. This has always been the rule. The second half of that rule has been eliminated which required prepayment of the next maintenance fee.

Bravo Bluegreen. You listened to us and made the changes we needed. Thank you.

One point of clarification. You can only borrow points without prepaying your maintenance fees during the fiscal year you have already paid.

Here's what I mean. The Bluegreen Vacation Club fiscal year is Nov 1 to Oct 31. Maintenance fees are billing in October of every year and due by Nov 1. So, in essence, you are paying maintenance fees in advance of them being available to you on your anniversary date.

After you pay, you can use those points at any time. So, if you have an April 1 anniversary date, you can book them for use in summer of 2008 now.

This is a very good change.

If you have a Dec 1 anniversary date and want to use them now for a thanksgiving reservation for next year, you still need to prepay those fees since they are technical in the 2009 fiscal year.

Boca, did BG change the Traveler Plus ann. date? I received a packet in the mail the other day with a new directory of hotels, etc. a new membership card and a keyring membership card. The ann. date appears to now be end of the year 2008. If this is the case, it looks as I will get a lot of free months going from my old ann date of March to the new in Dec.

Did anything else change on this? Did they notify members and I missed it?

Yes, you can call to borrow your points tomorrow for August 1 and book them now WITHOUT having to pre-pay your next maintenance fee.

I don't know the answer to this question. I wouldn't be surprised if at a change in renewal date.

I just went to the BG website. I see that the website has not been updated. I hope that gets updated soon.

Boca, thanks for updating us on this issue. I think I will be able to use this new feature soon.

Our anniversary date is May 1 and we've are already paid our 2008 dues. So are you saying instead of waiting until May to make vacations plans for 2008 I can do it now? The May anniversary date has no bearing? Has anyone tried this yet?

I'm not sure I understand this.

Hi, there. I've got an October 1st anniversary date. I want to book for Feb. 09. Can I book that reservation in Feb 08 (I am Silver) without prepaying my maintenance fees for 09? Thanks for explaining this. It seems confusing.

Another yes. See how great this new rule is? Bluegreen really listened to us on this issue. We spoke and they changed the rule. Thanks Bluegreen!

If you had a Nov 1 anniversary date, you would have to pre-pay since Nov 1 is the first month of the new fiscal year.

Thanks Jim for the info! I called this morning and the new rules worked great! I was able to book a summer vacation without having to wait for my anniversary. Thanks a lot!!! It's too bad that this info has to flow through these boards and not directly from BG. Thank goodness for these boards and great people willing to exchange info. The people on the phone at BG seemed to know about this new rule too. I was expecting this to be a big ordeal. It wasn't though! I guess though, come November BG will be getting a rush of calls from people wanting to make reservations then instead of waiting for their anniversary. Thanks Jim!

You can still pre-pay your maintenance fee for the next fiscal year and borrow points as always as long as your next earn date is less than 12 months for the date you wish to borrow.

I have to ask, why are you borrowing that many points? Is there an advantage to getting the point up front, or are you planning a trip 13 months out that you needed the points available? Just wondering.
