Starting sometime this week, owners may now book partial week stays up to 11 months in advance of check in.

Bluegreen to eliminate 5 month rule for partial week stays

I believe that Bluegreen feels this will free up more inventory for owners to book. Evidently, lots of preferred owners book full weeks and then cancel part of it when the 5 month window opens. If this behavior stops, it could be a good thing.
I also know that in a given unit, when someone books a Sun-Sun and the next person books say Sat-Sat, that leaves a stranded Sunday to Saturday reservation that nobody can book. So now, those units can be booked. That is a good thing.
The only potential downside I see is if someone decides to book only weekends at the 11 month mark and the only thing left is partial week stays at say the 10 month mark. That would be a problem.
I'm not worried though. Bluegreen manages inventory pretty rigorously. If we got a bad behavior, they would change the rules again to get better utlization and occupancy.

I thought BG had prevented the full week to partial week changes by not allowing new bookings at a resort within 24 hours of a cancelled reservation. Did this rule go away or was it not being enforced effectively?
Another advantage of this change is that BG owners booking partial weeks are now able to book prior to Shell owners being able to book any BG inventory.
The bottom line is still the same - you need to plan 11 to 13 months in advance to make sure you get what you want.

This policy change sounds like it would make it easier to take advantage of a smaller points package. I have been toying with the idea of buying into BG, but felt like I would have to buy more points than what I really needed. I don't foresee taking many full week vacations to the same place, but could see doing 3-4 nights. Before this policy, I felt I would have to buy enough point to get a whole week just to be able to reserve soon enough to get the time and place that I want. Now it seems like I can reserve the 3-4 nights I want and have a better chance to get the time and place that I want.
Am I correct that I could get away with a smaller points package now to meet my needs?

If you can use bonus time 3-4 times per year, it's worth purchasing a small package for that features, IMO.
Otherwise, buy a small package with low maintenance fees, but not a converted fixed week or you will subject yourself to special assessments.
If you are interested in acquiring a package just to do partial week stays, let me know and I'll help you find one that works better than renting. Or, just rent.

To stay for a full week would take 10,000 points. However, since I only want to stay Sun-Thur, it will really only take 3900 points (1400 for Sun and 625 each for Mon-Thur). It seems I can now get by with only a 4000 points deed and still have the same booking priority as those booking for an entire week. It seems I should be able to do this without bonus time, shouldn't I? Bonus time would be nice if I wanted to take an additional weekend trip, but it should not affect my one main trip.
Here is an example, let's say you purchase 8000 every other year points. Furthermore, lets say you purchase the most popular package type. It will have the following maintenance fees and dues every year:
Maintenance fees and taxes: $424
annual dues: $122.48
Total: $546.48
You can rent 4000 points for about $400.

What the best case scenario as far as maintenance fees for a every year 4-5000 point package?
$232 plus $122.48 = $354.48.
