  • Has anyone used Shell Vacation Club through Select Connections?

I was just wondering if any BG members have booked any time at any of the Shell Vacation Club resorts yet?
If so, where did you book and for what time frame? I assume that much like BG, the highly sought after locations may be booked before us BG's get a crack at them but it would be interesting to hear first hand.

    Thanks
    BW

We were thinking about trying to book in Arizona in '09 as well. It would be great to hear some successes or tips.

I haven't yet booked anything, but I did check for availability once in Dec. When I called, I was looking for Hawaii. I found availability at Waikiki and Kauai within 45-days out.

Someone on the Bluegreen Yahoo Group posted today that they just booked a reservation in Tuscon at Starr Pass Golf Resort for April.

Hi, I booked two suites at the Marina at the Ilikai in Waikiki. I booked in early February for a mid-April stay. The hardest part about it was waiting for the SelectConnections customer service rep to wade through the three different computer systems that they need to go through in order to do a booking. So give yourself a half-hour to a) confirm availability and b) book it.

You need to be a member of Traveler's Plus in order to make a SelectConnections booking. In fact, when you call, they will put you through to the Traveler's Plus desk.

Oh, and another thing: Make sure that you take down all pertinent confirmation numbers and such, and don't lose the info, because you won't be sent a confirmation letter or anything.

Thanks for the tips. This news is very encouraging. I need to set aside some time to call in and try to get a reservation!

                shell vacation timeshare

I was able to book a timeshare resort in Ft. Lauderdale... it was ok. but I've had my timeshare for 5 years and have not had one nice resort... Now I can't even find an availability or use it because "it's booked".... What a rip off. I wish you better luck.

Wow! I don't know where you've stayed but every place I have been to was very nice--well beyond adequate. It's not posh but comfortable, has all the necessary amenities (except for free high speed internet except for Boyne's Mtn. Run).

Where have you stayed that was not nice?

Where have you tried to book and it was all filled up? and when did you call and for what time period?

The name of the game is FLEXIBLE.

And I think another part of the game is having enough points to (as example) get the ocean front beach unit and not the resort two blocks away on the noisy street.

I don't think I have been anyplace where I have been 'ripped off' as you put it. I usually get two bedroom units, more room to spread out. I also try to get a good view. Shore Crest 1 we get ocean front, The Fountains we get the old building where we overlook the pond and are away from the water park, World Golf Village we overlook the golf course and the water features, Laurel Crest we had mountain view from our windows.

If you want a good unit, you may need to be booking 11 months out, or if you have VIP point status, book out as far as you can.

Even when you don't have many points to play with, doing some research ahead of time can help. I've requested one building over another and often got what I wanted - but I knew what I wanted going in, if you see what I mean. If you ask around, or just hang around here or in the yahoo discussion group, you can pick up tips on what units have the best view or what units to avoid because they have quirky issues (i.e., building one in Hershey does not have any direct connection to the pool, so if you're there in the winter you probably don't want it - it's also noisier because of the trains).

Susan's description of BG resorts fits my experience as well - "well beyond adequate... not posh but comfortable." I don't even mind the lack of internet, but that's because having no internet is kinda the point of vacationing for us. And actually hubby can get a lot of internet stuff (directions and weather and whatnot) on his phone anyhow (well, everywhere but some units at CMV ).

You booked a Shell resort thru Shell in FtL or a BG resort in FtL thru Shell?

I used Select Connection to book a week-end getaway during the Valentine day weekend. I booked 2 nights at the Carriage Ridge Resort in Barrie, Ontario 90 days in advance. I had the unit I wanted (1bdr unit). It was really luxious and worth every points I paid. Beautiful place by the way.

Will definitively go again to that resort and will try other Shell Vacation Club resort as well.

                          I recommand it without hesitation.

                          Hope that help.

BG is Bluegreen Resorts or Bluegreen Vacation Club. It's similar to Shell in that you have points you can use to access to various resorts, although Shell has more resorts in the west US and Bluegreen's are mostly on the eastern half, plus I have heard BG's maintenance fees are lower and BG in general less of a hassle. But I speak as someone who already likes Bluegreen, so that impression may be more in my head than based in reality.

Oh, and you can get all the perks with Bluegreen through resale (so long as you use an authorized reseller), which may or may not be the case with Shell.
