  • Can points be rented through Bluegreen?

I own with Wyndham, but think I might buy points now with Bluegreen. If I buy a resale package with 7,000 points, but find that I need 9,000 to stay a week at my chosen location, can I rent the 2,000 points needed? If so, how much do they cost to rent?
I would appreciate any other "buyers tips" you might want to give. If anyone is familiar with Wyndham, I would also like to know how the two programs compare with one another.

With BlueGreen, you cannot rent points. You really have two options. Option 1: Borrow points from next year's allotment of 7k points. Option 2: If you have points left over from the previous year, you can combine those with your current points to make a reservation. However, saved points can only be used in Red season or lower. You cannot combine points from another owner to make a reservation. You can have another owner make a reservation with there points and pay them a rental fee. Typically people charge $.10 or $.12/point for rental fees.

I really don't have any knowledge of Wyndham so I cannot compare the two. I know several people who post here that could give you a good comparison. There was discussion awhile back about doing a comparison of several different points based systems. I think that would be extremely interesting but a huge undertaking.

If you are a Traveler Plus owner, you can rent points from Bluegreen at $.15/point. It's expensive, but a good option if you are short less than 2000 points.

The biggest difference between Wyndham and Bluegreen is Wyndham nickles and dimes you to death and Bluegreen doesn't. In Bluegreen, there are NO reservation fees, no housekeeping fees, no fees for adding guests to your units. There is a cancellation or change fee unless you are a Silver or Gold preferred owner.

Wyndham has a nice online reservation capability now. Bluegreen doesn't have it yet.

Bluegreen has a featured called bonus time which allows qualifying owners to book any available Bluegreen resort for a discounted rate instead of using points 45-days or less from checkin.

Bluegreen allows you do pick any week you want for deposit into II or RCI, so it is a better exchange system.

Bluegreen maintenance fees tend to be less than Wyndham for equivalent accommodations. But, the upfront capital costs are a bit higher as well.

In Bluegreen, you can pick your unit that you book when booking. At Wyndham, you need to be a Gold VIP to get that benefit.

Bluegreen allows you to get Preferred owner benefits if you purchase from an authorized reseller. In Wyndham, you must make a developer purchase.

Bluegreen has AIM which is similar to PIC. But, your limit is based on how many qualified points you have. Not have many weeks you pic when your make the developer purchase.

In Bluegreen, you can book partial week reservations at the 11 month mark.

That's just at the top of my head.

Oops, thanks for the correction Boca on the points rental. I had never used the points rental through Traveler Plus and had totally forgotten about it. Sorry for the mis-information.

Boca, how do the quality of the resorts compare between Wyndham and Bluegreen?

I would say that Wyndham and Bluegreen is more alike than Wyndham and Marriott. But, Wyndham has more very high quality resorts. So, I would give a very slight edge to Wyndham in overall resort quality.

But, I much prefer the Bluegreen System over Wyndham.

            Thanks!

Thanks so much for the help...both of you. Sounds like I might need to purchase Bluegreen points instead of adding to my Wyndam. I think I like the idea of having 2 sets of resorts to choose from.

I ended up buying Bluegreen points instead of adding to my Wyndham because I wanted to go to Shenandoah Crossing, and was repeatedly told that it was considered a downgrade and wouldn't be allowed. I am very happy with my Bluegreen points. Although I have both BG and Wy, if I could only keep one, I would keep my BG points.

                Teresa,
What do you mean "downgrade and wouldn't be allowed"? Does that mean downgrade from Wyndham?

                Thank you
