  • New Member cancelling

    Hi all,

My wife and I just signed up today for 8000 every other year points. From what I'm reading on this board, we maybe paid too much and may not have been as aware of the program as we should be.

I plan on cancelling by following the instructions in the agreement. Is there a boiler plate "Intent to cancel" letter to use or is it just a matter of writing a letter stating we are canceling?

Also, I noticed we should return the materials we recieved or be charged for them. Do we send them back to the same place we send the letter or do we return them to the place we were at today?

I think this program will be great for me and my wife in the future as it seems more flexible than other time share options. We were led to believe that if we didn't sign up today we would miss out on all the benefits. The only complaints I read are from people who probably expected more than they were buying. Everyone on this board seems very happy with their purchase.

Thanks for the help and information. Your insight is most valuable.

If you're still in town I'd just take everything back to where you purchased with a written letter saying you are cancelling the contract and drop off everything they gave you. Of course you're opening yourself up to another attempt by the salesman but all you have to do is stand your ground. If you do this ALWAYS get a receipt acknowledging that you have cancelled your contract.

Otherwise I'd just send them a certified letter with return receipt requested that you are exercising your right to recind your contract. In that letter I would request information as to how to return the information/merchandise you recieved at the time of the sale.

I am not an expert on Bluegreen and do not know how their system works. In some systems you must buy something from the developer in order to make usage of any points system for exchange they have. In others it doesn't matter how you aquire your week.

I'd suggest recinding now and studying your options if Bluegreen feels like the right fit for you. Only then can you be certain you've made the best deal to fit your needs.

      Follow instructions to the letter

Be sure to follow the instructions in your agreement to the letter! No short cuts or more logical ways. Then, after reviewing Bluegreen through this group and possibly the Bluegreen Yahoo Group, contact Jim who can help you realize the true promises the salesman made. You are right in that there are a lot of happy Bluegreen owners. The happiest are those who do a little to learn a lot, like you are doing. And, if you want more information on the larger world of timesharing, join TUG. The membership fee is well worth it. And they also have a free bulletin board similar to this one.

By now you may have been contacted privately by Boca Bum (Jim) if he is reading all the messages. I just wanted to tell you that you can believe what he tells you and he is great about finding resales that have all the benefits. Boca has saved many members here many bucks. He would not contact you and tell you to rescind but since you have already made up your mind than by all means going through Jim is easier and more reliable than going through Ebay or some other means.

Jim is an authorized Bluegreen reseller. I would strongly suggest that you buy at least 20,000 points if you can afford it. It will probably cost you less than the 8000 you bought from the developer. That size package gives you lots of flexibility and points where you can book many vacations. Now that you can do partial weeks at 11 months it will allow you to book several units for less than a full week and this is great for family reunions and the like. I'll give you an example. I have booked 5 (2) bedroom units at Myrtle Beach in June for a total of 12,000 points. These reservations are for Monday to Friday checking out on Friday. This allows my brother to take all his children and grandchildren for a summer vacation just after the kids get out of school. Good luck. You're going to love Bluegreen.

          Maggie,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Just as a minor correction. I am a "referral agent" for Pinnacle Vacations. Technically, Pinnacle Vacations is the only authorized reseller of Bluegreen Vacation Club points. It's an important legal distinction, but not a practical distinction for potential buyers or sellers since prices are the same to the consumer whether I am the buyers or sellers agent. The only difference is service level.

We sent our letter and materials together via certified mail with return receipt. We got our refund this way with no problems. I think it took about three weeks. We did get a call from the resort we purchased at asking about the materials. I just explained that we sent them with the letter.

I would request a refund in writing along with the cancellation.

Question-is Pinnacle owned (full or in part) by Bluegreen or just picked by Bluegreen to be their reseller?

                Thanks Redman

Did you need to follow up at all about the refund or did someone call you back telling you the cancellation was finalized and the money would be credited back?

I did follow up with a phone call but the return receipt should give you confirmation. It will probably take a few days for the cancellation to take place after they receive your letter. You should get a letter and refund within about 30 days.

I submit this post with respect for your desire to cancel. However, I don't understand why you would purchase something for thousands of dollars at point of sale and turn around and want to cancel as soon as you leave the sales floor.

People attending a t/s presentation always have their excuses in place so they can say "No". Why didn't you stick with your excuses and say "No".

Are you aware of all the people you financially hurt with your cancellation? All of the people involved in your purchase work on some form of commission and in some cases lose more than the commission if you cancel. These people are just like you, they work to make a living to support their families.

If you don't have the courage or intestinal fortitude to say "No' to a t/s presentation don't attend one.

                      T/S Guy

I understand your point and believe me I wish I wouldn't have put myself in this situation to begin with. I'm new to t/s and by no fault but my own did not do enough research beforehand. But being new and coming to this board and a few others after the fact did I realize I did not want to be tied up in BlueGreen right now.

But how are you supposed to know what they're selling when they won't give you any information over the phone? You have to show up at these things to see what they're about. And when you ask the questions up front, all they tell you is that they'll answer your questions later on. If anyone's time is being wasted its the people that show up to the programs.

I frankly don't care about the sales person's commision. If they would have been more upfront and less misleading about the program I wouldn't have bought in the first place and therefore wouldn't have wasted their time.

I am for the consumer, not the poor sales guy.

Aware of all the people financially hurt with a cancellation? Give me a break! Are you aware of all the people that get financially ruined by overpriced timeshare sales? People that make monthly payments on 'prepaid vacations' beyond their means because they believed the lies, caved to the pressure.

ts guys target every breathing human they can get their hands on, offering bribes to sit thru the presentations. Sorry, I have a hard time siding with the poor sales guy who is part of the system offering the incentives to marks, pressuring them to buy. Maybe you are a decent honest guy, I don't know. Many are not and will make up ANYTHING to get the sale. I cannot support that position and you can't guilt me into it.

You've got to be kidding me. You come here and on your first post flame a newbie who realizes he made a mistake on his purchase. The TS salesmen (are you one?) are high pressure and will say anything to make a sale. Many of them are dishonest.

We bought a TS two years ago and after reading the contract in our hotel room later that day realized that what we thought we were buying was not what the contract included. IOW, the TS salesman lied We rescinded on the next business day.

Did he hurt more people by rescinding than he would have if he had said no? I don't think so.

These timeshare salesmen can be very persuasive. That's why the rescission period exists. Besides 1 out of 4 purchases are rescinded. I would bet a lot more would be if the rescission period were a little longer.
