Hello, I am new to this site and timeshares. We just purchased in December 10,000 BG points. We have made our first reservation for Marathon, and got to find out how to borrow next years points. Being short on points for this year, I am looking for additional points.

I have viewed this site and found alot of interesting topics and ideas. Thanks, Bocca, for talking to me and posting your useful information. Here is my question.

If I wanted to add points, and purchased resale, I wouldn't have to use a real estate agent (sorry, Bocca) if I felt comfortable with the seller. I could just have them add me to their deed and, once accomplished, with my name on the deed, I could have them removed. I now own the property by paying 2 title transfer fees to BG. I confirmed this with BG this morning, but is this possible? Has anyone done this?

Again, thanks to everyone for their input on the forum. It really helps newbies like me.

Yes, this is possible, but not required and risky. Whenever somone is added to an ownership, both parties own equal share of the title. It would be like purchasing a home and saying that the current owner should record a deed granting you joint title to their home. Then, later saying you will quit claim yourself off the deed. And, you want to do this to cut out the title company. Very risky for the seller if the buyer doesn't perform. Conversely, if the seller doesn't take their name off the ownership, that is risky for the buyer.

Not only that, but you can purchase directly from another owner and do your own transfer from the current owner directly to you with one transfer. Saves time, no risk, one closing, no broker involved.

    It happens every day.

If all this transpires as planed, will the new owner have two accounts with two sets of maintenance fees and two renewal dates?

Yes, but it is possible to link them.

I have purchased from a private owner at least twice and as Jim says, it is very easy. Bluegreen's Resort Title Agency will also do escrow for around $100 or so so even if you don't trust the seller, you are protected. Also, Bluegreen won't do the transfer if there is money owed on a mortgage or unpaid maintenance fees. The paperwork is very, very simple in that the old owner is taken off the account and the new owner is added.

That being said, my last purchase was through Jim. Why? Long term benefits outweighed short term cost savings. I wanted to be sure that the new points I purchased were in the right maintenance fee category so that I would get the financial advantage that goes with more points. I wanted to be sure that my new points would count for any changes in preferred status that might come down the road. And Jim gives service. He made sure that my new points account was linked with my old points account so when I log in, everything is there.

But, if you just want to amass more points, find the cheapest points you can get and do the footwork yourself.

            Hi, JT:

Our first Bluegreen vacation was at Marathon, too. We fell in love with the Keys there. The staff is very friendly. In fact, we had a couple staffmembers really go out of their way to help us. And I never saw such clean hotel rooms. Our housekeeping folks really outdid themselves.

It's a smaller, more intimate kind of place. People tend to be more relaxed and friendly. We had great conversations with fellow Bluegreeners at the hot tub.

Recommendation: There is a small cafe place close to the 7-mile Bridge called, appropriately enough, "7-Mile Grill." The breakfasts there are great.

"Castaways" restaurant is a real eclectic kind of place, set on a canal in the middle of a trailer park. But, boy-oh-boy, the food is GREAT and the service is knowledgeable and friendly.

            Have fun!

Thank you all for your input. Being new to this, it helps to find out the "rules" before playing the game. I agree with you, Charles, that the best way to do this is through someone who has the expertise with BG. Getting all your points combined, with one anniversary date, cleans things up and makes it simple.
Thanks, Jim, for your explanation, and the possibility of doing a deal that way. It is nice to have a place to go to find answers to your questions, no matter how dumb or stupid they may be. Its an asset to this Forum to have such knowledgable people here.
When my time comes to buy additional points, I know who to turn to.
              Thanks again.
