  • Bluegreen Vacation Club

I am new to timesharing and interested in purchasing, but have a (maybe a lot of) question(s). The main question at this point is, what is the Vacation Club? I was told that Bluegreen owners were entitled to reduced airfare and had the option of getting last minute reservations at different resorts. Am I misinformed or mistaken? Someone I know attended a tour and said it was part of a package. He mentioned that it had a $1300.00 +/- initiation fee.

I would appreciate someone clearing me up with the real information.

We have a Bluegreen Vacation Club forum right here on Timeshare Forums. Hopefully, someone will move this thread to that forum. You will get a lot more responses there.

The link to the Bluegreen Forum in my signature line. Click on it and get access to tons of good Bluegreen info.

Yes, you can get discounted airfares and such by becoming a member of Traveler Plus. However, the discounts you get are not any better than you can get from other sources.

The best values in Traveler Plus are for timeshare resorts. There is a feature called Hot Weeks that enables you to get last call RCI vacations for 3000 points if you can travel 10-days in advance of checkin. That is a great deal.

In addition, you can use your Bluegreen points to book any available unit in 18 Shell Vacation Club resorts in the West Coast (mostly California, Arizona and Hawaii).

There is a lot to the Bluegreen Vacation Club and there are lots of owners who can answer your questions about the Club right here on Timeshare Forums.

            VIP/Preferred owner benefits

            Ron,

Traveler Plus is one of the VIP/Preferred owner benefits. You can learn about them in the link above. There is a downloadable .pdf file at the bottom of that page.

If you are interested in this program, let me know and I'll tell you how to get it in the most cost effective way possible.

              Ron,

That initiation fee is interesting. To my knowledge, that does not exist. I was thinking maybe that has to do with a sampler package, but I didn't think the other benefits came along with that (Bonus Time, Traveller's Plus...)

Bluegreen is a nice system - not to hard to understand and master, plenty of locations, ability to stretch points using Bonus Time, reasonable fees, etc.

I tend to think of it as having the best of both worlds - use it as floating time but when you want to make a deposit to an exchange company, pick a week and it acts like owning a fixed week.

Certainly include it in your list to investigate and ask whatever you want!

                Boardgirl,

The Multi-site public offering statement describes Traveler Plus as a VIP benefit with an initial sign up fee of $1349. To my knowledge, nobody has ever been charged that fee. I believe it is always waived.

However, there is an annual fee that an owner must pay. Currently, that fee is $59/year. If you sign up for auto renew, the fee is $49/year.

A purchaser can only get this benefit if they purchase points from Bluegreen or a Bluegreen authorized reseller.

                  Hi Ron,

Bluegreen is a network of timeshares and after to research the locations of the resorts you may decide it's a good fit or you.

Most of Bluegreen's resorts are In the Easter US; Florida,South Carolina, Ga, North Carolina, Virginia, Pa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Branson, Mo. There are resorts in Hawaii, and Aruba. The Shell connection resorts are in the West. You cannot use Traveler's Plus or Bonus time, or Shell Connections unless you buy from Bluegreen so if using these benefits is of interest to you be sure to take Boca up on his offer for advice.

Buying from Bluegreen costs anywhere from $1.50 to $2.40 per point and it takes about 10,000 points to have an effective membership. However buying on the resale market is much cheaper. Sometimes as little as 25 cents per point. However by using Boca Bum who is an authorized resale referral for BG you can get the best of both world. Cheap points and the full benefit package and the lowest yearly maintenance fees. So Boca is really a gold mine of information. Follow some ebay sales, but beware of some of the pitfalls from using Ebay. If and when you decide that timeshare vacations are for you if the Bluegreen network has resorts that meet your needs I would highly recommend it. If you decide on Bluegreen than I'd highly recommend you listen to Boca.

If all you are interested in is airline discounts and cheap hotel rooms, traveler's plus isn't that great a deal. You can do as well on Travelocity or Expedia or some of the others.

And don't forget Big Sky, Montana. And BG is a great system. If you want to overload on information, there is also a BG Yahoo group.

But...I have gotten a better price on hotels through traveler plus, and booked my July flight through the BG travler plus site. Didn't save a lot on this flight, but have done well on other flights. Rental cars may be cheaper or you may hit on priceline and get a deal. I alway check multiple sites and use the best price.

You also get shopping discounts. We get take out food from a couple places and use our card for a discount. We have bought movie tickets through the website at a discount vs the theater.

I manage to pay for the traveler plus renewal every year with the savings.

Anybody have a timeshare available in Malakai this summer?

                        Best,
