thinking of taking our boat ( 17 ft) down to the Hammocks next summer. Has anyone done that, and if so, how is it taking the boat our in those waters. thanks, ds

it looks like you can stay in the intracoastal waterway all the way. pretty safe. only open water is at florida bay but that's only a few feet deep except in the channel. red, right, return. ken

Well, you're going to be in the Keys, and they can get shallow. Buy a good chart, gas up and have fun. If you stay inside the intracoastal, you should be okay as far as waves, et cetera.

We are going to Key Largo this next month and will be renting a pontoon for scuba and diving. We have been assured the waves are mild this time of year and the boating is awesome.

Now, if you are talking about going down the IC in a 17 foot, that would be a challenge.
50 miles per day is about average and the waypoints are stretched about that far. Bring good water and a credit card. Gas is going to be expensive.

Have fun and lather up with the SPF.
