  • Unsure of Points System & reservations

We have tried the bluegreen sampler program and loved it. Now we are going to try ownership. We have purchased 9000 points with a March anniversery date. I have a few questions.

Will we will have problems booking in the summer (we have a child in school)?

Also we thought 9000 points would be enough because some years we would be able to borrow. Let say we wanted to go to Fountains high red Sun -Fri for 10,000 points. Could you book that September 08 for travel August 09 and borrow 1000 points from 2010 with our March anniversery? And is it likely you could get Fountains with 11 month reservation?

    Thanks

    Lisa

    Lisa,

Welcome to our Bluegreen Forum and welcome to the Club. You have come to the right place to learn how to maximize your ownership.

You will not be able to do what you want. You can borrow your March '09 points to book for summer 2009. However, the extra 1000 points you need to complete that reservation will turn into saved points by March 2009. So, you won't be able to use those points for the high red reservation at The Fountains.

If you are a traveler Plus member, you can rent the extra 1000 points for $150. That may be the best way to go.

In addition, you will have a good chance of getting bonus time either at The Fountains or the Orlando Sunshine resort. Those two options are good as well.

One last option that you should consider is booking a 9000 point reservation at a resort like Christmas Mountain Village in the summer and deposit it with RCI and trade into Orlando. That way, you can get a whole week. Some owners have been able to do it with a studio deposit at Big Cedar for a 2 bedroom in Orlando.

Good luck deciding what you want to do. You have arrived in the right place.

      Confused

Can someone summerize the types of points that exist, what they can be used on, and during what timeframe those point can be used? Maybe also, when you can borrow points?

The people on the phone have told me so many different things that every time I cal I just want to reach through and strangle them.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed somewhere already, I'm new. Just point me to the thread in that case.

      Thanks,

        jb,

It's a bit confusing as you have determined. So, it's better to use your specific case and we can tell you exactly what to expect.

Just tell us how many points you own, if it is annual or bi-annual, and let us know your anniversary month (e.g. earn date).

          Here's what I think I know

I have 15,000 pts/year. I get points sometime in Sept.

          Here's what I think I know:
          1. I only know of 2 types of points: new and old
          2. "New points" are less than 12 months old
          3. After 1 year points become, what I call, "old points"
          4. "New points" can be used to reserve any color week
          5. "Old points" can only be used for red or lesser weeks
          6. "Old points" must be used for a check-in date that is before the 24th month after the points were originally given to you

Lingering unknowns that either I've never asked about or I've been told conflicting things about:
          1. "New points" can be used to reserve weeks with a color greater than red for check-in dates that are ... before and/or after ... the points turn into "old points"
          2. You can borrow points by paying dues/fees ahead of time???

Here's my scenario that might help enlighten me because I'm not sure why the scenario Lisa painted below wouldn't work:

I get 15,000 "new points" on Sept 1st 2008. On Sept 2nd 2008 I want to reserve a 2 BR in week 31 in 2009 @ The Hammocks @ Marathon which is 21,000 points. I can pay my dues/fess for 2009 ahead of time which allows me to borrow my 2009 points giving me 30,000 points. Then I have enough to make the reservation ... right?
