First off, it's great to finally find a forum where it looks like I can get some of my questions answered along with gaining other useful information regarding the in's and out's of Bluegreen.
My wife and I have been Bluegreen owners for 3 years now and overall, think we made a great decision and have had great experiences at most of the resorts we've visited (I'll elaborate later). We're in our early 30's and have 2 kids and love the fact that we can vacation all over the US using BG. We've ran into a few snags when trying to book vacations, but being flexible in where and when we want to vacation has helped. It's very confusing trying to understand all the rules about our points, i.e., saved points/bonus points can not be used in high red seasons, etc, but I think we've gotten a handle on that and the people at BG reservations have been very helpful getting us straightened out.
We just returned home from a trip to Orlando and Ormond Beach. In Orlando we stayed at the Sunshine resort which was nice. A great place to relax after doing the Disney thing. We did visit the Fountains and that place was awesome. If you have kids, I would definately suggest staying there. In fact, they might not even want to go to Disney, they might opt for staying at the resort all day. The new waterpark area was a big hit with us and they have tons of kids activities.
After Orlando, we went to Ormond Beach and stayed at Casa del Mar. This is where our trip turned south. We checked in and then went to see the BG representative for our parking passes and so on. The lady was very short with us and a little rude. My wife recognized her name because she spoke with her on the phone before we came down and mentioned that she was rude with her on the phone as well all because we turned down the sales meeting because we were going to one in Orlando. When we got to our room, we realized that the one bedroom was not fully what we had expected when looking at the room layouts. The bedroom was not totally separate from the main room. There was a wall with a door and an open window with no glass, just wooden shutters that separated the bedroom with the main room. Therefore, you could hear everything that was going on in the main room while in the bedroom. With having 2 kids that needed to go to sleep around 9pm, this was a problem. So, we wondered if we could upgrade to a bigger room. I was not expecting that they would have any rooms available but just wanted to discuss our options with the BG representative downstairs. I explained our situation to the BG rep while she was eating her sandwich. She told me that she couldn't do anything about it because Bluegreen was closed on the weekends (this was a Saturday). It was my understanding that as a member of Bluegreen Travelers Plus, you can check into a Bluegreen resort for a 2-night minimum for a fee of about $75/night if they have availability. She continued eating her sandwich and told me she's never heard of such a thing and that I should check with the front desk. This made me furious because the front desk doesn't have anything to do with Bluegreen. Anyway, the front desk informed me that they were full, which I expected from the start, I just wanted some clarification on using the Travelers Plus and how we could go about upgrading to a bigger room, if one was available. So, if anyone is still reading this long post, and can enlighten me on that, I would appreciate it.
Also, if anyone else has stayed at Casa del Mar, I would like your comments. We've been to 6 other Bluegreen resorts and this one was OK, but not in the same league as the others.
