    Hi All,

We just purchased a Bluegreen timesahare and are still in the recission period. We have seen so much negative online and are concerned about being able to get the time we need. We have three kids and purchased 7,000 points for even yr use. The cost was $8900. We did get charter membership in Travel Plus with unlimited bonus nights and great escapes. The salesperson said those features make the deal feasible for our family without the need to ever trade in RCI. We were deeded to Grande Villas in St. Augustine week 41E (does that effect trading power). The program seems wonderful but we can only travel around holidays . . . July 4th and Memorial day. Can we actually get reservations during high season with this package understanding we would need to borrow or rent points? Sorry for all the questions . . . just want to make sure we made the right decision.

    Thanks!!
    Beth

      Beth,
I am new to timeshares too. Just last week I was asking the same question you are. We did rescind and are waiting for conformation before buying resale. We walked away after reading reviews but are now comfortable with Bluegreen and happy we have a chance to think through our decision.

From what I have found you can buy many more points for the same price from resales. Good Luck and read as much as you can for these forums.

        Rescind

        Beth

I am not a member of BlueGreen yet and not too familiar with this forum. This thread seems to be old, most of the recent posts are 2009 so I'm not sure if many people will see your post. You should probably look around and post in a different place on the forum to get advice.

But from reading I think everyone will tell you to RESCIND - CANCEL !!! while you can and contact Bocabum99 on this forum to get you a much better resale deal with the same exact benefits at much less cost. You paid a lot of money for very few points. Don't wait and good luck.

Yes, you can, however with holiday weeks you must reserve the minute you can in order to have much selection, and some places will be very hard to get into even then (namely smaller resorts or associate resorts or particular units). As an owner, you can use Bluegreen's Internet reservation system to track availability and get a general idea what's available when. For instance, if you reserve eleven months out, it will not be hard to get a Myrtle Beach reservation on a holiday - but it may be hard to get a unit right on the beach.

You can also rent from an owner who has enough points to get on the "wait list", meaning they have better odds of getting the hard-to-get-into units than the rest of us peons, if you have your heart set on something quite rare, like a 3 BR cabin at Big Cedar. There's always availability at Big Cedar at the eleven month mark, so far, but rarely any 3 BR cabins, holiday or not. I used to know how many 3 BR cabins they were but I forget - under five, I think. Way fewer than people want, at any rate!

It may be that as more people discover the ins and outs of making Internet reservations that'll change, but when I checked this past year even the more popular and quick to fill resorts like Big Cedar were available for holiday weekends for anyone looking eleven months out.

John Cassidy accurately summarized the advice most people here will give you. If you don't rescind or decide to buy into Bluegreen, people here will be happy to share tips on how best to use your ownership as well. Unless you hope to rent your points or trade for something particularly nifty through RCI - people are not so likely to respond to those two questions. But if you want a particular reservation and ask how to best get it or wonder where would be a good place to stay to accomplish whatever or anything like that, people will be happy to share.

And, yes, if you decide to buy resale, I highly recommend Boca Bum, who posts to this website. All our dealings with him he's been good to work with, and I know others who say the same.

            John,

One advantage of the format of this forum is that when you post a message, it goes to the top of the list and appears in bold type. That way, even threads which started long ago but with new input can be seen. Also, if you have read in that thread before, just click "first unread" and it will take you to where you read last.

The moderators are on the lookout for duplicate threads and will cancel them when appropriate.

              Should we buy?

We've been reading all we can online to try to determine if we should purchase a 2BR chalet w/ loft at Mountainloft from a private reseller and understand that we would not get the benefits one usually receives when buying from the developer. Since we prefer to travel to different places, should we avoid this purchase, even if it is a fantastic deal and purchase points instead?

Brand New to Bluegrass. Want help to get the most out of it

Hello all! We are a family of 5 that just became owners. There is my wife andi, plus 3 children (13, 11, and 8 yrs old). My oldest has Asperger's Syndrome which is on the Austism Spectrum. We got in at the 9000 points every other year level. We were looking to do maybe one major vacation a year or perhaps a couple of mini vacations. We are teachers, so our summers are flexible. We really prefer not to go during peak seasons, due to some of the issues my daughter has. We went to Christmas Mountain (April 15 - 18, 2010) on a friends points and really enjoyed it. We went to the sales presentation and really wanted to become owners, my daughter started have anxiety and we really had to cut the end short. We were presented with the 20,000 point package and a 10,000 point package. We really were not sure if we wanted to commit due to the price (we could afford it, but we are frugal). The very nice people there let us use a quiet office and we ended up getting the 9000 every other year deal. We wanted something to "test the waters so to speak". We are hoping that we will be able to get our vacation out of this package. Any help on how to do this, since we really did not get the full explanation due to our daughter, not Bluegreen. We are excited and want to begin our vacationing at the Arizona resort over the summer. Thanks in adavance for any tips or advice.

Resale prices are MUCH cheaper than the prices offered at the resort. By going with resale points, you can get probably 3-4 times the amount of points than you would for the same money at the sales office. Points are a great way to go as you have a lot of flexability.

We have been owners since 2002, have been to Myrtle Beach several times and stayed right on the beach (not in town, not across the street, a unit where we walk down stairs and onto the sand), we have been to a couple places in Florida, Gatlinburg (musgma-great view, but get points), Pigeon Forge, Montana and Christmas Mountain. We have done an exchange once.

My wife is a teacher, so we do spring break in one location (coming from MN, we want something warm) and one summer location.

                    Don,

With that description, you could be a BG salesman. That is the essence of the BG Vacation Club. You make me want to start packing.

Salesman? I think that is the nastiest thing you have said to me.

While I do like BG-I would never be in sales.

I meant a real salesman. Not a snake oil selling, brow beating, harassing, tongue lashing low life.

                            Thanks!

Thanks, Don, for your advice. Those of us who love our timeshares do tend to be a bit passionate about them and become "salesmen." We already own a week with Marriott at Grande Vista and points with RCI. That's why we want to get this right. We were considering this purchase to help a friend who needs to sell, but we don't want to make a mistake either. The chalet at Mountainloft was nice (stayed there a few days last week), but we like exploring new resorts.

Are you sure it is a week only and not a points item? There are only a few (that I am aware of) that have an actual week and not points tied to a deeded week. If that is what they have, and you are getting a good value, then it would be worth looking into further.

                                Fixed week

It is fixed week #15, chalet #102 at Mountainloft that was never converted to points, and she is asking $1,000 plus closing costs. We asked lots of questions at the members services department while we were there and were told it would take about $9000 to convert it to 13,000 points. Do you know if there is any way to convert it for less? Another BG member suggested we just buy it and rent it to cover maintenance fees when we don't want to use it. What's the probability of being able to rent it at this time of the year? Thanks in advance for your help.
