Timbers is nicer if you can get it.
There are less Timbers units available.
They are bigger and have screened porches and BBQ's.

    • also deluxe Timbers, villas, and townhouses are very nice too.

Have you ever sent in your proxie? I’m gonna respond to mine but was wondering who to vote for. I’m liking Larry Biles for no other reason that he’s a retired combat pilot, naval engineer and a business owner. At least I will have sent a response.

I honestly have not because there is never a quorum. But hey, why not!

          • Jim,

My wife and I have had Bluegreen for two years. Used it a couple of times but have had more headache than blessing. Is there a seminar, webinar, or class anywhere that is not run by Bluegreen or another time share group, but by actual users to helps us get more out of this?

Reading here should get you up to speed; in terms of forums, this is the place to be. There's also a yahoo Bluegreen book that is quite active:

              https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/bluegreen/info

The problem with most resources is that they become dated fairly rapidly; that's why discussion boards and owner groups are your best bet.

What did you want to do with your ownership that isn't working? What are the headaches you're dealing with? Like anything, timeshares have strengths and weaknesses; happy owners tend to go with the strengths, while the most unhappy owners often want their TS to do something it's bad at. OTOH, some owners are unhappy until they get the hang of things, then are pretty happy. Hopefully you're in that last category, and can make the system work for you once you figure out what it can and can't do!

OTOH, if you bought in expecting to stay always in one place, and that place is an Associate Resort where BG only has a few weeks, not gonna work. Some of the smaller resorts (or large resorts where BG only owns a few units) can be a bear to get for anyone who can't get on the waiting list. Or if you bought in assuming all the resorts would have the same amenities as Big Cedar, which is not the typical BG resort. That's one reason anything with lower points at Big Cedar can be tough to get most of the time the lazy river is open (the other is BG's grave lack of options west of the Mississippi). But even with Big Cedar in the summer, some dates are a lot easier to get than others.

Anyhow, if you give us some specifics on what kind of headaches you're dealing with, people here might be able to help. And if they can't help, maybe they can give you a better understanding of why things aren't working!

              • We are not good at long range planning, I pastor and she is a medical foster parent so we don't always know when dates work a long way out. We are however flexible and would just like to figure out how to take greater advantage of resorts here in FL where we live for last minute weekday get aways. Also seems like we can never get East Tennessee in the fall. Any suggestions would be great.

Most of the owners I know who do that live relatively close to a lot of BG resorts (sounds like you've got that covered), have a list of possibilities (sounds like you're good with that as well), and then check frequently for last minute possibilities, grabbing them the second one pops up. After that, supposedly, just takes patience and persistence. It's all about grabbing a reservation someone else has released because they realize they can't go after all.

OTOH, while there are a lot of Florida BG resorts, most of them are small and points cheap, meaning a lot of them are tough to get into even eleven months out; the Orlando resorts and St. Augustine probably have the most availability. But it also depends on how last-minute your last minute is; some people release their reservation a few months out, others wait until the ten-day deadline, so the further out you can be checking, the more resorts on your list, and the more often you check, the better your odds.

Another option for a Bluegreen owner are the Last Call weeks on RCI; seems like I see Florida resorts there every time I look (I don't think it's true anymore that 50% of US resorts are in Florida, but there are still a lot of them). Bluegreen owners don't get a last-minute discount when using our points, but we do have access to both Last Call and Extra Vacations, which can have some good deals in Florida pop up sometimes.

Tennessee in the fall is tough if you can't reserve early on; everyone wants to be there for the leafpeeping. The same policy as for last minute Florida reservations would apply; check, check, and check again, and see if anything pops up. I'd also keep an eye on the RCI options.

IMHO, Timeshares are much more oriented toward people who plan long-way out; it's possible to get reservations last minute, and some people get pretty good at it, but it requires more commitment than some other options. The happy BG owners I have known who mostly went last minute accepted that it isn't the easiest way to make use of a TS, and that the odds were against them, but either enjoy the challenge and crow loudly over success, or just keep patiently plugging along and appreciate whatever reservations they manage to get all the more. If you're not using RCI right now -- and it's gotten super-easy for BG owners to use the last few years -- then I'd look into options there. We are more likely to use Last Call or Extra Vacations than to trade through (which is often cheaper since you don't pay the fee and since BG generally owners don't get lower points for last minute reservations); if you're having trouble using all your points you'd probably want to trade instead, but if you were hoping to use Bonus Time anyhow the cash options might work for you.

There are the rare owners who use Bonus Time and RCI Last Call weeks so much they regularly have points expire. That would drive me crazy, but it works for them I guess. And that's the key -- finding what works for you.

I haven't done any of the tutorials on the BG website, but they've gotten good reviews by other owners, so they're worth a shot as well. Good luck!

                        • My husband and I are looking to sell our Bluegreen points...we have 29000...silver membership and travels plus...do you have any advice? As Canadians it is just not in our best interest to keep them as it is just too expensive to travel to the States and we are looking to purchase a trailer.
