  • Premier Owner Benefits

Here is a summary of the benefits:

All Bluegreen Point owners automatically get the designation of VIP member. VIP membership gives you access to Bonus Time for available units less than 45-days from check in for the rate of:

    Studio: $49/night
    1 bedroom: $59/night
    2 bedroom: $69/night
    3 bedroom: $79/night

Note: Bluegreen just raised their bonus time rates by $10 per night for each unit size: edited 10/29/06

Note: Bluegreen introduced the new Premier Program on July 1, 2008. The attached are the new rules: edited 7/8/08

In addition to these benefits, BVC has additional designations of Premier Membership. Today, there are Silver (20k points) and Gold (35k points) Preferred Memberships. There are reports of Bluegreen finalizing plans for Bronze (15k points) and Platinum (60k points) Preferred Memberships.

Today, buying resale still qualifies owners for these preferred member and VIP benefits. This could change at any time.

The attached files describe the benefits of the Premier Ownership program.

Boca Bum, I asked elsewhere what the gold and silver point levels were, but just found them here. No need to reply, since I know for now. Thanks for the info.

        Re: Silver and Gold Benefits

I just checked these out again, as I decide how beneficial it would be for us to buy more points so we were at the silver level. I notice one of the benefits listed is a waiving of the cancellation fee. It lists that fee as $35, but on our most recent reservation information for Big Cedar, we were told that cancelling would cost us $50 and changing the reservation $35. If the fees have gone up, has the waiver in the silver done so also?

Yes, this fee just changed for the new fiscal year. You have it exactly right. If you want to upgrade, let me know. I know all the best ways to do it based on your particular situation.

            Howdy!

Just found this site, reading lots.

My parents (non retired, working class) own 7,000 points of BG (and evidently both my sister and I are on the deed as well, is that "normal"?). They use mostly the "Bonus Time" throughout the year for stays from what I understand.

I had just read that buying points resale (through eBay or elsewhere) no longer changes your "status". So for example we buy 13,000 additional points through resale to get to the "Silver" status, we'd actually only have the points, not the benefits associated WITH those points. Is that the only change?

I have yet to go to a BG resort, as it is hard traveling with 2 young children (well, not hard for me, hard for the wife), but I'm sure we'll be at one or two by years end.

On a whim I had checked out some eBay auctions for points, to increase my parents total number, even if their "Preferred Ownership" status wouldn't change, it may still be a good idea. Any helpful hints or simple tricks?

Thanks, and I'll continue to read up on it all.

*edit - you also noted that there are other "status" benefits (bronze and platinum), any word on those yet? - Since, buying points at a resort isn't out of the question if the "Status" seemed worth it.... *

              Mok,

I believe you have a good understanding of the situation. You can buy points off eBay and they will still be good for use as points. But, you won't be able to get them to count toward preferred owner status.

When buying on eBay, you need to watch out for hidden fees. To close a Bluegreen transaction that does not receive bonus time or preferred owner benefits, the closing fee should just be $225. And, you should NOT reimburse for annual dues of $115 plus sales tax because that is billed directly to the owner by Bluegreen. If you pay it to the seller, you will be charged again.

Lastly, some eBay sellers do a flip purchase. That means they find a seller, agree to a price. Then, they list it on eBay to find the buyer. Then, they open escrow to close. What happens is a double closing. Once from the seller into the name of the ebayer. Then, from the eBayer to you. That takes twice as long to close. It can take 4-6 months to close. That is painful, especially when you aren't getting developer benefits.

If you are interested in alternatives to eBay and would like developer benefits. Let me know. I can tell you the options for getting it for a relatively good deal.

No word on Bronze and Platinum. I was told that they are waiting for their new system to be implemented first.

The same was true for this enforcement of resale transferrability. Since they implemented the system changes to enforce resale. They could have implemented the bronze and platinum levels as well. It would make sense to do them together.

If that's the case, then it will exciting to see what benefits will be in the new programs.

I have also been looking at ebay auctions. I understand that I can no longer get silver status with a resale, however since my original points were bought from Bluegreen I will still be able to use bonus time won't I? Also if I buy a resale how will my maintenance fees be figured? My current points are new program points and I am only looking at resales with new program points.

Jim, would like to talk to you more about my options for getting more points.

Long rumored Bronze and Platinum levels were announced at the Bluegreen Vacation Club Annual meeting on Sept 25, 2007.

Bronze level will be 15000 points.
Platinum level will be 60000 points.

                      Silver will remain 20000 points.
                      Gold will remain 35000 points.

The benefits at each level have not yet been finalized. We will post them here when they are released.

With this in mind, would it be wise to buy enough resale points to get to Platinum(new) level before Bluegreen may decide to not let people upgrade via resale market?

The original post was in March of 2006. As of Feb 21, 2007, Bluegreen started enforcing the no transfer rule on resale accounts not purchase through an authorized reseller.

So, if you want Preferred owner benefits, you must purchase them through a an authorized reseller. I am a referral agent for one. So, if you are interested in Silver or Gold, I can help.

As far as purchasing ahead of time to get to Platinum, I know many people who did this successfully prior to Feb 21, 2007 to get Gold benefits and position themselves for Platinum.

My recommendation is to wait until Platinum benefits are announced along with the qualification criteria. That's because we don't know a) if the benefits are worth the cost or b) what the qualification criteria will be. It could be that platinum benefits are only achievable by a purchase directly from Bluegreen. You never know.

So, those strategies can pay off, but there is always risk in them.
