  • Big Cedar 2BR cabin vs 2BR lodge

There seems to be a big difference between the 2BR cabin vs 2BR lodge. I have never been there. I'm not sure if it's real or just percieved difference.

Can someone fill me in on the differences in the room types at Big Cedar?

    Thanks,

Cabins don't actually have a vista type view. Since they are at ground level, they are down in the trees, so you don't get a lake view. There is nothing quite like a rustic log cabin though, which make up for the view. They are very nice inside, have a wood-burning fireplace with all-you-can-burn wood supplied, though you may not want to commit to a long-term fire in the summer. A gift "sampler" basket will be waiting for you as well as a small assortment of items in the fridge. More privacy and quieter for cabins in that you won't hear your neighbors through the walls or ceilings. Many of the cabins are quite close together so outdoor privacy may be limited. We didn't find this to be true when we stayed in our first cabin this past May. The cabins were offset from each other and there were tree branches that blocked most of the view of the other decks. You can park right outside your door, which is better than fighting for luggage carts on busy check out mornings. Also, you have your own private gas grill on your deck.

The 3rd and 4th floors of the front row of lodges definitely have the best views of the lake. The top floor can also have more balcony space. Get the 2nd floor if you don't want to bother with stairs/elevator. The two newer lodges are mostly blocked from having lake views, but are closer to the new pool area that is currently in construction. Two bedroom lodge units are larger than 2 bedroom cabins and sleep more people for fewer points, and a have a gas fireplace (which you can turn on and off instantly for those quick fires). They have two kitchens. This is due to the fact that 2BR=1BR+Studio which each have a kitchen (mini one in studio) and separate sofa beds and king-size beds. Two bedroom lodge sleeps 8/6. Two bedroom cabins sleep 6/6 with one king-size bed, one queen bed and the sofa bed.

We have stayed in both the 2 BR lodge and the 2 BR cabin. The lodge is the place to be if you want a view (don't accept a first floor unit). It is a lockoff unit, consisting of a 1 BR unit plus a studio. The square footage is 75 sq.ft larger than the cabin but has the feeling of an apartment with a small balcony. The are nicely decorated and will sleep 8 people if you use the sofa beds. You have all the amenities of the cabin but not the atmosphere. The cabin is rustic but modern, with the bedrooms separated by the living area and a lovely large deck complete with comfortable furniture and large gas bbq. Instead of a gas fireplace(like the lodge) you have a wood burning fireplace with the wood supplied for you. They sleep six, using the sofa bed. Most of the cabins are nearer the club house, in a wooded area but no view. We do prefer the cabins but they are a bit harder to get and we are happy with the lodge when we stay in one. Go to Welcome to Bluegreen Online then to resorts and you can view the layouts. Hope this helps. MRSBUR

The lodges are great, the cabins are greater.

The setting is not one of those million dollar lake views, except from the end of Big Cedar Cove looking out, where the main buildings at Big Cedar Lodge are located, so don't fuss over view at BCWC.

If all you need is occupancy for 6, take a cabin. It is comparable to a $2500-$3000 rental in the summer.

Although Big Cedar Lodge and BCWC are separate entities, don't make too much out of that. The only thing you will notice concerning that is the nominal user fee for the Big Cedar Lodge entities.

In real life, when you are there, it is all one big place, and staying at BCWC on the north side of the cove is essentially no different than staying in the $600-$700 a night rental cabins on the south side of the cove. There are walking trails and roads connecting all of it.

Granted, the BCWC clubhouse/indoor pool/lazy river is intended for BCWC guests.

I agree, there's no need to fuss over the view. I was just giving all the info I could think of for those interested in that sort of thing. We've had a great time there every time no matter the unit we were in.

The cabin was great and it was a two minute walk for us to get over to the lazy river.

So far we've stayed in every lodge except 2300 and 2900. We've also stayed in units on each of the floors. We didn't even mind staying on the first floor. The kids were able to go straight out and toss a ball, etc. in their "front yard" while we sat on our patio and watched them.

So true... it all seems like it's all one big resort rather than the WC being separate.

The only time we've really seen a distinction being made is that it appears that they want WC guests to only use the WC shuttles and BCL shuttles are for their guests.

We personally have never seen or heard anything saying that BCL guests aren't allowed use of the lazy river or pools so it must be part of their agreement. The BCL shuttles drop and pick people up there. I remember seeing a 2004 BCL brochure saying that they'd no longer be charging their guests a separate Incidental Service Fee for amenities. I assume it was absorbed into their nightly room rates.

                Thanks for info

I was leaning towards a trip to the Falls in Branson, but all of the details about Big Cedar have got me quite excited to try it. I think I'll try the lodge first for the view.

                June in Oklahoma

P.S. I wish there were other resorts within driving distance of Oklahoma. Even the Branson area is about 6 hours away.

I was leaning towards The Falls for next getaway, but info on this forum has made me switch my intent to Big Cedar. Hope I can get into the lodge within the next month or two to check out that great view!

All things being equil, the views are not.
Our view was of the mid trunks and tops of trees. Great for the bird watching of the birds that flew by my window, but beyond that...well, beyond that there was nothing, just trees. It really depends on location location location.

It was so $^*(&#% hot when we were there, we didn't bother with outside much. We did a couple shows in town, but otherwise, had nice down time in the air conditioned room.

Oh yeah, the hot goes away. Today's high is spose to be 70.

On the hot days you will find us in the hot lake, which got up to 94 degrees. It is in the lowers 80s now.

And the fish are biting again.

What time of year did you go? I would like to avoid it at all costs. We were visiting there the end of May this year and the weather was gorgeous!
It was this place that pushed us over the fence to buy BlueGreen (like I need more timeshares!) Very happy though

We went for the week of 4th of July-another bad idea-going to a major tourist location on a major holiday=major driving problems. Anyone trying to get to a show, or even drive around in the old town area had better plan on extra time. The 80 year old drivers just are not going to move fast.

If it was up to me (and we all know it isn't) the three main streets would be made one way with the center one going one way and the outer streets going the other way. That would reduce traffic problems greatly.

JLB would know better, but I would think that May-June and guessing that later Aug and Sept. would be wonderful times there. Just not during a July 4th heatwave.
